England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

07 will be Haldex 3 - Haldex 4 was fitted from 2009 MY onwards.

Eco Stop/Start should save fuel each time it stops the engine for longer than 3 seconds.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black

Hi all, new to owning an FL2 after downsizing from a discovery 3. Read about fuel useage and am beginning to wonder!
My disco 3 managed a steady 26mpg with most of that on short journeys. Longer runs got maybe 30-31, saw 33 once!
I bought the freelander to save costs on fuel amongst other things. So far I am around 30 mpg and struggle to get more!
Car is a 57 Xs with hse style wheels manual, with around 100k on the clock.

It has just been serviced with new tyres as well.

I had hoped for loads more as this is a small car compared to my last truck!

Anything to help appreciated!

Hi All

So that's 4 weeks with MY13 GS & 1,200 miles and getting 35.3mpg - 1 long run to Liverpool and a far bit of town driving - looking good for the future when the engine has loosened up, well happy Smile

Averaged 35.9 over first year. Only using refiners diesel but not Ultimate. TD4 Auto GS. Best was over 41 on steady motorway run on nice day. Previous car was Dodge Caliber 1.8 petrol doing no more. Very happy so far. Very Happy

Northumberland to Gloucestershire for Xmas, plus some running around: 608 miles, 39.1 mpg (according to the trip computer). Not quite as good as last time I went down (40.1 mpg), but that was probably just the running around.

sparky Bazz, your TD4e should do nearer 50+ at a steady 65 mph.

I had one for a week and averaged 50.8 over 360 miles in a week.

Filled up my SD4 earlier this week on the M56, motorway services just by the Stanlow refinery, 2p litre cheaper than supermarket at home Thumbs Up
Drove to Wrexham hospital at between 60-70 and it was showing 44.2 when I got there, thrashed it home later that night, silly speeds seen and it was still showing 37.6 after the 100 mile round trip.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Baltic Blue

Recorded my best ever MPG today on a trip out to Southend on Sea....mixture of Motorway and Duel Carriageway at a steady 63-65 mph got me this

And ended up at this

Pretty happy with that, and conclusive proof that more than 60mph and less than 65mph is THE number to aim for if you worry about economy (I don't, but wanted to see what it could do at that average speed)

**Edit 9/1/13 - just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it broke the 43 barrier on a journey to East London this morning. 320 miles out of just over half a tank...will let you know what the total tank mileage reads when empty (ish)

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

I'll throw my hat in the ring..... first thing I will say is that I had low expectations but even if it was a Hummer I would still be trying to get the best out of it....

So on my way back from collection I was 36 or 37 mpg which was mostly motorway

Since then I have done a couple of school runs and driving around town and I'm down to 29/30.9 mpg. I'm working the basis of a) I have every warming gadget going in the car on to stay toasty b) Its very cold so I expect the engine would be working harder ( poss due to a) ) and c) coming from an auto that used to do 33mpg to 38mpg its not been much of a shock but I am still learning to drive the car the best way.

In context mines a 06 FL2 so I believe it should have the Haldex 3 not 4 which catching up on this massive thread makes a difference ?

Any thoughts on improvement ?

Third tank in the newbie - 41, second was 42.3 mostly motorway (but mixing the speeds) and fist was 39 very mixed mkiles per gallon from the dealer fill-up that might not have been quite "full" like I do.

It should all be loosened off soon so will get a true picture. Not sure if stop-start is doing much for me as I do a lot of M'way but it has too help no matter how little. Overall average for the last car (every drop recorded) was 38.9 and an average of all the trip meter readins over the life was 40.1 Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
Gone... 2008 (09MY) XS Td4 Manual Stornaway Grey

First chance to see what my XS will do decent journey. Now has 3k on the clock.

Leicester to Lincoln on the A46, 120 mile round trip. Where possible cruise set to 65mpg and it returned 44.3mpg. That was more than expected so what did Land Rover do to the engine between 10MY and 12MY? I see the emissions are lower and there is a difference in the power delivery in 1st and 2nd gears which appears limited but still rapid if you want to get away quickly. I guess that is to save on clutch warranty work! A Land Rover owner since 1988

From a 1974 series III to a 12MY XS FL2 with help of a 1995 D1, 1996 D1, 2005 D3, 2007 D3 and a 2009 FL2.
