United Kingdom

I hav emy 2007 2.2 manual since Feb 2011. The last 16,000 miles have got 30.97 mpg. BUT this was on ASDA fuel.

I recently filled up with BP and got 36 mpg have now done about 1000 miles on esso fuel and got 37 MPG.

I only use the FL2 to got to work and back 14 miles each way.

has anyone else found this type of diffrence in MPG with diffrent makes of fuel?

David

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Tonga Green

Been up to the Lakes this weekend and got considerable improvement on MPG on the run up (38 MPG).

Did some driving around up there, mostly around Borrowdale/Honister. Filled up before coming back and my Road Trip app said I'd got 33 MPG which is better than my usual 29/30 MPG Thumbs Up

Got it down to 18 MPG earlier in the week when we had a very cold morning. After about 20 minutes into the journey, the MPG started climbing slowly up to about 29. Strange... Rolling Eyes Discovery 4 HSE - Aintree Green

Falkland Islands 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

Like most of you, I wish I could get more mpg but it's just not going to happen. I get around 30mpg with diesel. It's a 4X4, weighs almost 2 tonnes, has a slab front and is pretty tall. But after all it's got a great presence, a lovely high ride and enough performance for most.

Who wants to sit in a normal car after this? Freelander 1 HSE TD4 Manual in Falklands

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

Just done about 1,000 miles on a trip to France. Cruising down the autoroutes at 70 in cruise control it did a creditable 40mpg using M LeClerc's diesel and TSO. Diesel is about £1.11 a litre in France at the moment. John

Automatically thirsty

Surprising how inefficient the auto is in comparison to the manual. My 07 GS has maintained average 37.9 mpg over 55000 miles - more on a long run. The autos all seem to be more like 32 mpg at best which is for me unacceptably thirsty, much as I appreciate the convenience of an auto in traffic and somewhat better off roading - at least as far as not burning out the manual's clutch is concerned - but still on my original clutch which is good going. I suppose this is why the magazine reviews pan the thirst of the Evoques - most of the ones they test are autos.
Hopefully LR can get some boffins working on improving that auto thirst soon.
I would add that the manual box is great - a slick unit - if first was lower it would be perfect.

Maybe they did already with the MY2013? Although the engines remain the same the shift patterns on the autos have been changed and also there is now brake energy regeneration technology added. 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Orkney - waiting!

Tradewind, think yourself very lucky! I truly do not know how you are getting that economy. Over 37mpg for an 07 seems exceptional. Mine is an 08 @ 90,500 miles and I cannot better much more than 33mpg overall, no matter how carefully I drive (see the link in my sig - presently about 33.1mpg I believe). Is your Haldex unit an original type 3? I understand the replacement type 4 unit offers more economy. Bob 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Hi Bob, fink you should wear lighter shoes, slippers perhaps Very Happy
My Haldex is original 07, no idea whether it is a 3 or a 4 but just glad it does what it does so efficiently. I never imagined that the economy of the Landie would be so good - my last car was an XJ 4.0 and nothing I could do would get it above 27mpg -seemed to drink petrol with the engine off! All in all the costs of running my Landie have been very acceptable as the tyres lasted for 44,000 miles - hmmmm is that could well be linked to the good mpg. Only horror was the cost of replacing the electronic baubles when they went wrong recently. So glad it does not have the Eco Start Stop thingy, hate that - had it on the firm's cars- loathsome device, especially when progress was required or on hills.

Looking back through my records, the best I have had tank to tank was 37mpg. That was with fairly gentle dual carriageway/motorway driving however. Most of my driving is country roads & into town, never over 70. Don't get on the motorway much. Must be that that is killing the economy! BTW, you have the 3rd generation Haldex as I do. The 33.1 mpg is over 14,363 miles, so very accurate. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)
