New tyres tomorrow, anticipation is high

Getting a set of Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extremes fitted tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it. They'll be replacing a set of Nankangs that the dealer put on because the tyres needed changing when they got it in part ex. They made a mess up of the price they offered me the car at, and to cut costs after we'd agreed on the price, they put the Nankangs on. To be honest, they've been ok, but they won't be going back on again in March. I do a lot of miles, so in the winter the Vreds are going to make me feel a lot happier. Also can't wait to try out the terrain response. had a FL1 before this, and never got stuck once over the last two winters, and I live at the top of a valley, with no way out but down.
They've forecast snow tomorrow, so may get to try them out straight away.
I'll keep you guys and gals informed about the performance of the tyres as I get to use them in anger.

To be honest, they've been acceptable. I've pushed them reasonably hard on bends. They seem to grip ok. As I've had them since I've had the car, I don't know if any others would be less or more noisy. Haven't tried them off road either. For weekend use only, I think you'd be ok.

Are weekends short of slippery roads and the perchance of an emergency stop then? Confused It ain't high usage that determines the need for safety, it's ANY usage. Just my thoughts FWIW. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I find that all weekends are sunny, warm, and devoid of other drivers on the road. On a serious note though, what your saying is correct about when you drive. Accidents don't only happen during the week. I've done 12k on mine in 7 months, in all weathers apart from snow and ice, and they've performed well. I've never felt that the would give in. Oh and I towed the van with them on as well. There are lower brands than Nankang.

Got mine fitted this morning. Is it snowing yet?
They seem ok, but let's see what happens when it gets colder.
Going to York tomorrow, supposed to snow in North Yorks tonight.
Yeeesssss

hello
Just for saying that this week i changed my original Continentals with 4 new sets of Pirelli Scorpion Z.
Amazing tires! Silent, good wet grip and super comfortable! The Contis seems dated from the Iron Age Smile The price is very competitive compared with Michelin, my usual choice on other Freelander models.
Best regards for every one from the "Troika province" Smile

No. Snow in Portugal just in some small places in the North and Center of the country; and not so heavy and permanent as in England or Nordic countries.
My opinion is just for our Winter: rain and some cold Smile
February the warm weather comes again Smile Smile
But, back to Pirelli again: love them!
Best

Interesting thread...
I have just swapped from p zeros to wintrac 4extremes. Having had Pirelli ATRs- awesome tyre, I was very interested in testing out my lovely new wintracs (thanks nicam).
The perfect opportunity arose yesterday and today when we had 3" of snow that has rapidly turned to ice up in the dales.
I must say, I'm delighted with the performance. Car feels good, stopped great when I had a little play in the totally deserted work's car park.
So far so good... My advice to everyone is not to bother getting winter tyres now
because now that I'm fully prepared, we will have a mild dry winter!

I noticed that too. Downside is that for other road users, the spray off my tyres is twice what it was on summer tyres. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Just shows how much water they are shifting, dispersing it rather than riding on it. Thumbs Up

Taken the day off to visit Andy and get some Wintracs fitted tomorrow.
Currently on Pirelli scorpions and sliding all over the place, but to be fair I am down to about 3 mil tread.

Hoping for next ice age (after 3pm tomorrow would be convenient ) _________________
