France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

Don't ya just love Google Translate Very Happy

"For the use of xenon headlamps, the legislature writes neber the headlamp cleaning system also provides automatic leveling. The ultrasonic sensor is mounted with a holder on the floor of the car and connected to the central control electronics. This gives further their setting on the servo motors on the headlights. The actuator position the headlights accordingly then the loading manure situation. For vehicles that sink in loading both at the rear and at the front, a second sensor is needed. The control unit is designed for two sensors operation. It comes with different adapters, allowing for installation of the actuators is possible at many luxurious fixtures."

Clealry the Germans think the FL2 is a heap of "manure". John

Resurrecting a slightly old thread ...

Jon, regarding the slef levelling kit ... what does it plug into? Does it run independent of the vehicle systems and just control the lights? Or would you need to add sensors on the suspension to tell the kit how the car is sitting?

You need sensors there is one on eBay When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

Hello
I'm an MOT tester and you are only allowed to test to the regulations. My understanding is that the MOT regulations DO NOT specify that the car has to have headlamp washers and a self levelling system. Just that if they have those, they must work.

Here's the specific wording from the manual:
"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given".

Based on the manual, which we have to work to, I wouldn't fail the car for not having them fitted. I couldn't - it would be impossible, because there will not be a specific RfR (reason for rejection) for that. It may have a RfR for self levelling or washers 'not working' but not for 'not fitted'. I'll double check when I next log on to do an MOT and see what specific RfR's there are available to choose from. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

They're still illegal to fit whether you have headlight levellers or not as the contravene the cars type approval.
Technically it could invalidate your insurance if they were fitted, in reality you should get away with it providing you have projector style headlights as it is near impossible to spot the difference, the average copper certainly wouldn't have a clue.

There are a large number of cars around Bolton at present with ordinary reflector type lamps with HID retro fits, they do nothing but dazzle and are a menace, driven by sponging chavs in crappy corsas.

Unfortunately it is all part of a growing trend to upgrade your vehicle to resemble something newer which they can't really afford.

Perversely, being illegal has never been anything to do with MOT regulations - that comes under the construction and use regulations or some other regs. MOT testers are always told on training courses that they are just there to apply the MOT rules, not uphold the law. For example, sharp edges on a vehicle likely to cause injury to a pedestrian are a fail.......but ONLY if they are caused by accident damage or corrosion. You could cover your car with broken glass and razor blades and it would not be a MOT fail. It would be nick though!

Always willing to help out/offer advice on MOT matters. Or you can search here: http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/doit...guides.htm

One more for you Steve, been asked a few times with no definitive answer, only opinions.

If someone removed their DPF and assuming a mod to the ECU ignored the removal, can I safely say that as long as the emissions are within spec it would get a 'pass' irrespective of you knowing it should have been there as it was fitted at the factory Question

Well, firstly , a diesel engine doesn't have an emissions check, it has just a smoke test. You can only fail a vehicle that has the cat missing if it was originally fitted with one. There is no RfR for a missing DPF though so again, no RfR = no fail. The dpf wouldn't have any effect on smoke output though so as long as the car will pass the smokemeter test, it's a pass. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I have Xenons retro-fitted by Stratstones, and they do NOT have the self-levelling system. I queried this when I took delivery, and they assured me that it would not affect the MOT. Foraging near Gaydon....

They are correct then, the HID retrofit will not fail the MOT.
However, if you were involved in an accident and let's say the other party claims you lights dazzled them, then technically the car is not correct under the construction and use regulations, even though the lights carry the relevant "e" marks etc, the insurance could invalidate the insurance, although as you didn't fit them the area becomes very grey indeed.

I applaud you for having them fitted though as the standard halogens are diabolical. It is high time the law was looked at to allow retrofitting to projector style lights.
