Oh yes indeed. If a diesel runs out altogether, they need 'bleeding' so I'm told. To prevent this, the system will not allow the car to run dry so it goes into reduced power mode (been there done that) and you have about 2 miles before the engine cuts out.

I must have been very close as it would have been 2 miles if not nearly 3!!!

Indeed. I was in the overtaking lane of the A38 heading home when I lost power. I was about half a mile from my turn off and a further mile to my local filling station. Crept onto the forecourt just in time

You've searched too far away as the info was much closer to you than you thought. Just a quick look in the manual and you've found out the answer at page 150... Engineers... Last edited by alex_pescaru on 2nd Aug 2012 7:32 pm. Edited 1 time in total |

If an on-board computer says i have 70 miles left I expect to have 100 miles!! as I'd have thought there would be a bigger safety margin

I like the way the sat nav shows petrol stations when there are 50 or 60 miles left. |

Mate of mine seems to like running cars out of fuel, and he's never bled it (including a freelander and rrsport)
