Locking doors reverberates on the accelerator

Whenever I start the engine and move forward, as soon as I push the accelerator doors lock and the accelerator is affected by quick double vibration accompanied by a metallic noise, the kind of noise you hear when you hit a metallic rod.

It happens only at start, whether or not doors have been already locked.

Any idea?
Thank you in advance

I thought it was a set speed that locked the car but it needs to have the accelerator depressed in conjunction with the increased in speed to know its not a runaway vehicle???

Its strange to have feedback through the pedal though, so if your getting this it would be best to pop back to the dealer and lets them look into it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Are you sure the door locks and the sound are directly linked? Are you sure it is not the Haldex adjustment after starting up and starting to drive off?? The door locks are NOT (edit) controlled by a simple vacumn system, so there should be no major mechanical noise from them.....so pay no attention to me Rolling with laughter

I have the very same thing. Only happens with the auto-locking mechanism. If anything, it's become less noticeable with time.

Gambba, the door locks are driven electrically and not by vacuum. Even Mercedes has given up the vacuum driven automatic door locks on most of its models due to exessive cost over electrical systems.
Mabo: the automatic door locks should be driven by the speed and lock at 5 kmh. Any metallic noise when locking seems to look like a fault in the system. So you better see your workshop.

YF you're are right, my bad......was thinking about my old A3 which I recently removed the door trims on..

I think Audi were using them up to relatively recently, but don't think LR have ever used it Banging Head

Hi, guys, thank you for your inputs!

I decided to explore the issue a little further and I did a few experiments.

Experiment n.1 (engine just started, doors manually locked, gear in D, flat road, no accelerator)
As soon as I push the accelerator, doors automatically try to lock a second time and a noise like "ta-tang" is heard under the floor with a sudden double movement on the accelerator pedal

Experiment n.2 (engine just started, doors manually locked, gear in D, downhill ramp, no accelerator)
As soon as I gather speed, doors automatically try to lock a second time. At the end of the ramp, when I pushed the accelerator NO noise from the floor and no double movement on the pedal

Experiment n.3 (engine just started, doors manually locked, gear in D, flat tarmac, no accelerator)
After a few seconds doors automatically (try to) lock a second time, I wait a few seconds and I push the accelerator. At that time I hear the "ta-tang" noise accompanied by the double movement on the accelerator.

Any new ideas?

if the doors lock automatic why are you mannualy locking them first I would have thought if you dont lock the doors mannualy the doors will lock themselves and it would solve your problem? 07my Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Baltic Blue,Privacy Glass,Ebony black leather,Land rover detachable towbar,S/S Side bars,Climair wind deflectors,Bramble Rash,

Rover60,

I decided to experiment and lock the doors manually just to sort things out. Manual or automatic lock does not seem to affect the results.

My experience is telling me that:

- door locks and the sound are NOT directly linked, as Gambba pointed out. Nonetheless they usually happen exactly at same time
- the sound and double movement perceived on the accelerator is probably trasmission-related, but I have no clue as of why and what Sad

Hi mabo,

have you considered the possibility that it could be the Haldex centre coupling that transmits torque to the rear axle when starting from a standing point and then disingages once underway?

I think Attox is right. The Haldex clutch pre-enganges before pulling away to ensure drive is sent to all 4 wheels.

On my car I get the noise, and slight floor/pedal vibration slightly after the doors lock, rather than at teh same time.

I guess it may be configured slightly differently on an Auto, so it happens at the same time.

As luck would have it, my LR2 is currently in the dealer for routine servicing. In addition to two "recall" fixes, I asked them to look into this issue as well. I'll let you all know what happens.

I have exactly the same noise but I reckon as it only happens when I start off after the engine has been started the vibration through the pedal is the self test of the ABS system. D3 GS Java Black TDV6 Manual

Looks (or should I say sounds!) like the query here is the same as the one I posted under "cable noise under the car". However, one thing I should say is that I don't think my FL2 has automatic door locking? I've got the Australian SE version. Can anyone else in Oz confirm the absence or presence of automatic door locking on Oz models?
