Having got fed up with loads of water landing on the windscreen whilst driving on Hampshire country roads in all this recent rain, I have just fitted the latest smaller, front bib spoilers (as no bibs fitted to my 2007 model). What a difference they make! No longer does water spray up and forward, to land on the bonnet / windscreen when you drive into it; water now goes out sideways and you can see after going through a puddle. Thoroughly recommend this mod. Cheap and easy to fit |

You can get front SPATS from dealer, worth there wait in water this weather! Just hit a flood across the road at 60mph and all the water cleared to the sides. Absolutely fab, easy to remove if you wish to go off roading |

My car came with these front spats fitted so I have no experience of driving a FL2 without them. All I can say is if these represent an improvement, or a reduction, in the amount of water that hits the windscreen after driving through standing water then it must be awful without them!! |

Give Dan at Duckworths (the site sponsor) a ring. They cost only about £10 for the pair and are a worthwhile addition IMHO (others will no doubt disagree!). 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles. I find them totally useless, puddles at any speed and the rain hits the screen. |

Just fitted them to ours, they really help the splash back from puddles and they look great as well.

There are various effects at work which combine to send the water everywhere. The main ones are due to the rotation of the wheels (which throws the water into the air in the first place) and the aerodynamic effects which carry it to wherever it ends up (including the windscreen). At first glance it seems surprising that water can be thrown forwards, ahead of the car, but if you think about the way the wheel rotates as the car moves, the bottom of the tyre is actually stationary (in contact with the road), which means that the top of the tyre is travelling at twice the speed of the car. And water coming off the top of the tyre is thus travelling faster than the car and gets thrown forwards. (There's also the effect of 'squashing' the water out in front of the tyre.)
