my 2009 HSE Auto has been very reliable, compared to my first 2006 SE which was a launch model and had teething issues

people don't writing in to What Car or join a forum due to having no problems, they join or write a rant and rave normally

To be honest, they are landrovers, they do have their faults, but they do also put a grin on your face to

Have a trip to Sponsors Lookers Park Royal, i did and drove away happy with a great deal Thumbs Up

main area of problems are clutch, power steering, and rear diff.

None of these fault are endemic to all cars but they do occur.

My FL2 got traded in at 32,000 miles and ran a sweet as sweet, clutch was as good as new At work

Only one problem here, admittedly a big one but happened because of a bad batch of parts allegedly.

They are a good vehicle, most parts are shared with Jaguars, and Jag are second to none in reliability surveys Thumbs Up

As NPinks says, forums are the place that people talk about problems, no one praises everything working correctly! A BMW/Audi/Porsche/Bentley etc forums will be full of people with problems you never hear about.

+1 for going to Lookers as NPinks says Thumbs Up Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Compared to what?
I had a Skoda after 90k the only non service items were an indicator relay and air-con clutch - OK never been off road. Whistle
One of my colleges has a similar aged Xtrail 60K dealer serviced, just cost £2,103 for a turbo and intercooler - took 10 days fo the parts! and never been off-road. Censored

Mine is a 2008 Auto, 65k miles off roaded at every opportunity (every day for 6 months).
Noisey aircon clutch changed at first service, steering rack and pump changed under warranty, the only other fault that I can think of is a faulty fuel gauge, and considering that some numpty rammed the rear at >70mph I am assuming that the accident is a contributory factor.
So all in all not as good as some, better than most, and far better than the model it has replaced.

A very happy owner - not sure I would replace it with a newer model, until the DPF was sorted, would steer clear of the manual if you are hamfisted with clutches / tow a heavy trailer / off road regularily - or in my case all three Very Happy
Don't expect 50mpg, some do get v.good mpg, I don't. My average 30mpg, 24mpg around town. It's a heavy car, accelerate hard, brake late and chuck it around corners, and you will pay at the pumps, and in brake / tyre wear. Mr. Green Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

My auto is still going strong after 156K miles [crosses fingers Whistle )
Just make sure you have the latest software update and you will be fine - no clutch to burn out.
Generally the car has been very reliable and has had nothing more than regular servicing, discs and pads. Cheers,
Raz

mine is a late 2008 with 21k
its had the following,
aircon pump, evaporator, control valve 2x fan speed controllers,4 dash boards, column sensor,EGR valve, loads and loads of electrical issues, wiper motor & wiper rack, faulty auto box, steering rack, steering pump, resovoiur, suffered with diff issue's, wiring loom, crash sensor issues causing air bag light to be on and off, and extremely poor customer service from new . piece of junk totally unreliable, appalling support, not worth the money! its had load more bits but lost count of how many breakdowns ! forgot the turbo ! Whistle also forgot the replacement towbar which took 3 years to sort out !!!!!!! only sorted thanks to McPherson strut
It doesn't make me laugh or smile ! & I don't accept we should have to accept it just because its a LR, Censored cost best part of 27K , last car that bad was a Hillman imp ! and that was better than LR

Bearing in mind there is a waiting list for new Freelanders (12 months for the Evoke, built on the same line) so 2nd hand values are holding up well, unless you are trying to sell Shocked
As the OldGeezer has unfortunately found out low mileage is no garantee of trouble free motoring.
I would have thought that an average of 10k per year was about right - so 60k sounds fair.

If you can, buy from a reputable specialist (we have a section for naming and shaming), as the software updates should then be applied, they do make a difference. It is worth travelling a distance to buy from a specialist that can actually fix the car, thats why Lookers in London sell so many vehicles up north. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

old adage if the car has a towbar walk away, it will probably have towed a heavy caravan so suspensions gearbox clutch will have felt the strain

runs and hides - but there is truth in that, given a choice take the non towbar car, unless its fitted with a roll bar perspex windows and racing tyres of course At work

Mine was brand-new and had 14 faults in the first 3 weeks ! it hasn't done any miles as its too unreliable and dealer and LR customer services were not interested and just kept saying there all like it ! My Wife wont drive it because for 3 years the auto box was pulling away in 2nd gear causing massive hesitation and flat spot which LR couldn't diagnose !

Definitley not holding their values, tried to PX against Jaguar XF new and they wouldn't even quote me as they said too many s/hand FR2's on the market due to the Evoke.
considering mine is unmarked ! pristine and still shiny under the arches as its never been anywhere except south of france 3 times and loads of Factory extra's an offer of around 11K was taking the Censored
especially when there was a 58 GS on the fourcourt with 48000 miles without the extra's for 17K !
It just make my whole experience even more bitter, worst 4x4 by far
