Hi treetop, I guess this oil is for outboards, if you hawe dpf you should use oil marked jaso FC mineral or part syntetic Smile

2-stroke oil issue

Hi all. I read all of your comments with great interest. I own a 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 S. A very reputable mechanic in my area suggested the same thing to me about 2 years ago. He attributed mosof the diesel repaurs in his yards's causes to this same issue, and to the fact that our diesel's quality is not the best. I have started adding the oil to my tank whenever I remember, but specifically on longer trips. The difference is remarkable. Their is definitely less smoke. it starts instantly, and fuel economy has definitely increased. I recently did a trip from Pretoria to Inhambane (Mozambique), and got fuel consumtion as low as 6.8l/100km on average. Yes the traveling speed was very low (80km/hr) due to law enforcement, road conditions etc, but my vehicle was also packed to the roof. On our anual trips down to the Eastern Cape, I usually exceed the speed limit a bit, driving backroads, and usually find that I get 8.3l/100km at a speed off 130-140km/hr - again with a fully loaded car. I would definitely endorse adding 2-stroke oil to your diesel!

Adding 2 stroke oil

Hi. My freelander 2 is now just over 4 years old, so the warranty has expired. I have only dome 26000 miles in it from new.
I've read, and heard about owners of 4x4 diesel vehicles adding some 2 stroke oil in the fuel tank. It;s supposed to lubricate pumps etc.
Would this do damage to my engine, and how much would I need to add?

Cheers
valleyboy

are you suggesting that it's the 2T (2SO) that is the cause of the problem???

I normally put 'redex' in my take at least once a year - have done so for many years on petrol and now on my diesel Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

Well I tried this two-stroke oil in the fuel, but to be honest, I couldn't notice any differences at all actually.
If the noise was reduced, I couldn't hear it - although my hearing aids are not exactly tuned to the engine...
Oh, well... It's never too late to learn something new...

As far as I am concerned, the adding of 2 stroke oil is not primarily about engine noise or fuel consumption but protecting the pump and injectors from wear due to the lack of lubrication qualities in some modern diesel fuels. This is a long term thing.

Maybe Chrisdeeming's issues are around injector wear occurring prior to 2 stoke being added to the fuel. No doubt he will let us know in due course. I think that somewhere in "War and Peace" there is a post which says that most diesel fuel additives (Redex et al) contain to a greater or lesser degree, 2 stroke oil.

It is not just this forum or thread talking about 2 stroke oil. Do a google search and you will find that everyone and his brother are getting concerned about the weakening lubrication effect of diesel fuels. John
