All MY11 cars have a DPF but my VIN does not have a C as the eighth symbol. CG get back to your caravan magazines! |

Hi all. I read all of your comments with great interest. I own a 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 S. A very reputable mechanic in my area suggested the same thing to me about 2 years ago. He attributed mosof the diesel repaurs in his yards's causes to this same issue, and to the fact that our diesel's quality is not the best. I have started adding the oil to my tank whenever I remember, but specifically on longer trips. The difference is remarkable. Their is definitely less smoke. it starts instantly, and fuel economy has definitely increased. I recently did a trip from Pretoria to Inhambane (Mozambique), and got fuel consumtion as low as 6.8l/100km on average. Yes the traveling speed was very low (80km/hr) due to law enforcement, road conditions etc, but my vehicle was also packed to the roof. On our anual trips down to the Eastern Cape, I usually exceed the speed limit a bit, driving backroads, and usually find that I get 8.3l/100km at a speed off 130-140km/hr - again with a fully loaded car. I would definitely endorse adding 2-stroke oil to your diesel! |

Hi. My freelander 2 is now just over 4 years old, so the warranty has expired. I have only dome 26000 miles in it from new.

are you suggesting that it's the 2T (2SO) that is the cause of the problem??? I normally put 'redex' in my take at least once a year - have done so for many years on petrol and now on my diesel 2002 Honda VFR800 2002 Toyota Celica 140 Silver (mid life crisis - again!) 2007 FL2 GS Manual Army Reconnaissance Green + freel2.com sticker 2004 Toyota Celica 140 Black - Gone 2000 Toyota Celica 140 Silver - Gone 1998 Toyota Celica ST Pearl Green - Gone 1996 Nissan Primera 1.6 - Gone 1994 Rover Montego 1.6 Auto - Gone |

Well I tried this two-stroke oil in the fuel, but to be honest, I couldn't notice any differences at all actually.

As far as I am concerned, the adding of 2 stroke oil is not primarily about engine noise or fuel consumption but protecting the pump and injectors from wear due to the lack of lubrication qualities in some modern diesel fuels. This is a long term thing.
