Car has only done 7000 miles but I have noticed the outside edges of the front tyres are wearing down rather quickly. Going by previous threads this could mean that the camber requires adjusting.

Does anyone know a reputable place to get this done in Central Scotland. I have Pirelli's fitted, done 9k miles & noticed when checking pressures the outer tread going on mine also but again just fronts.
I was going to get the backs swapped to the fronts to even out wear?

Just moved my fronts to backs due to the problem with the weak shoulders on the Continentals.

Question - do you drive over many speed humps?

If YES do you drive over centrally meaning both tyres hit the edge of the speed hump?


I have the same issue with my front tyres both with outer edge nearing no tread (luckily law says outer 12.5% of tyre doesn't need tread on it!!!! love it if someone could confirm this fact!!)

Had the alignment checked and both wheels were tilting outwards - they suggested it was due to how I drove over speed humps - I now drive one tyre on hump other to side of hump - hence a flat run for the tyres. 2002 Honda VFR800

Yes to the first one and sensible advice to the second one

It's a 4WD with the capability to cross pretty rough terrain, I think LR will have built a little more ruggedness into the car than it be ruined by a speed hump.
The OP probem was outer edge tyre wear, the tilting out you describe Simon, to me, seems contrary to what a speed hump would cause. Logically the hump, if central, would affect the inner edge and cause tha wheel to tilt inward?
I am running Pirellis, fronts after 22,000 miles are around 4 mm, the rears around 5mm, even wear across the surface, which is to be expected as most of the work is motorway.

I never had any problems with my previous two Freelanders but they had Goodyear Wranglers. Get a full 4-wheel alignment done at a tyre specialist rather than LR dealer. Specialists have computerised "Protrac" or "Supertrack" rigs & they should know how to use them. Normally only costs you for the wheels that need adjustment. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)
