Even with this impressive average it would probably be cheaper to fly to Scotland and rent a car unless of course you were mob handed on the trip.

My trip last year to Speyside cost approx £250 in fuel. Evil or Very Mad MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

London to Blythe (Northumberland) on Sunday on BP Ultimate: 32mpg. Blythe to London yesterday on Jet cheapest: 39.9 mpg. All at around 70 mph on A1 with no holdups. So it has to be one of the following:
1 Sunday it was uphill all the way.
2 Jet's cheapest outperforms BP Ultimate.
3 Freelander sensors not working properly (surely LR electronics never go wrong?)
4 BP in S London selling rubbish diesel.
5 Punishment for travelling on a Sunday.

Seriously though, Sunday was very wet, with tyres having to work harder to shift the water, and a fairly high crosswind. Can it make that much difference? Oh and the Jet station in Blythe was the cheapest I saw all the way.

Hi Folks

For information.

Freelander2, 2011,Diesel, stop start, Td4 2.2, 150hp, Manual, roof bars.

I have a thing about giving as little of my money as possible to the fuel companies and I am also getting old and don't mind travelling a little slower these days. So, driving steadily (but not so slow as to hold up traffic)and using driving techniques which conserve fuel (gentle acceleraton, change up on the green arrow, ease off well before corners etc) Here are some recent figures

Local driving --- Twisty country lanes, market town, short runs. -----41MPG

To Scotland last month
Lincs to Dumfries 250 miles at 50mph on A roads and 60mph on motorways (told you I was slow)----48.9MPG

Dumfries toGrantown 200 miles speeds as above ----47.1MPG

Pitlochry to Dumfries 150 miles speeds as above ----55.4MPG

Dunfries to Lincs 250 miles speeds as above ----- 50.2MPG

Points . I do drive with an aim to be as economical as possible, it is a bit of a "thing"with me and I understand that others wish to drive in their own way.

Wind strength and direction can make a considerable difference to consumption.

Consumption is considerably higher untill engine is warmed up, takes around 5 miles driving with mine
.
I do use the two stroke oil, it may give a little more mpg but I am not totally convinced and it is very
difficult to control all the variables and perform truly fair test.

Cheers Mr T
