Custom made semi-roofrack

After searching for months for a proper roofrack for my Freelander, I decided to go with a custom made solution. As I don't think I'll need a full roofrack, we went the easy way and manufactured one only for the back of the car. You can see below what came out.

Few comments:
- overall, it is very solid and very good quality
- the wind deflector details are not as good as they should be, so this will probably be replaced. Now it's made from plastic, it will be made from fiber glass most likely.
- it weights about 20kg but it will support over 100 with no problem.
- in case a full version is needed, it is not complicated to extend it.
- no wind noise at all. At 130km/h, with music turned off, I couldn't hear it!
- the price was very decent, about 200 EUR.

P.S. Pictures don't serve it well, they were made with my phone camera.... Sad

The length was adjusted so that it fits those holding places which are already installed on the roof, as I didn't want to drill any holes. I don't know if there are any other mounting points along the roof...

There are mounting points just above the front top corner of the front doors, just before the start of the windscreen.

On mine there is a shorter peice of plastic strip with a cross marked on it - if I remember correctly Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

I fitted the LR rails on my old FL2 and yes the trim has to be drilled on the cross to use the mounts. The main reason why I left the rails on when I traded in.

I use a full basket bolted directly on to a pair of aftermarket bars I had for the FL1. However being so large it is very easy to get to the 75Kg limit. Prog rock is cool! Smile
