The length was adjusted so that it fits those holding places which are already installed on the roof, as I didn't want to drill any holes. I don't know if there are any other mounting points along the roof... |

There are mounting points just above the front top corner of the front doors, just before the start of the windscreen.

I fitted the LR rails on my old FL2 and yes the trim has to be drilled on the cross to use the mounts. The main reason why I left the rails on when I traded in.
