2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

I bought a pair of AFS units a year ago and put some error cancellers (big capacitor!) inside them but have had a few issues with them so I'm going to put them on eBay and go back to the standard halogens.

The Xenons are absolutely amazing and I'll be getting them as standard on my next Landrover but retrofitting them reliably seems to require too much hassle. New: Freelander2 GS 62 plate (MY13) - Santorini Black with Clearview & Front PDC
Old: Freelander2 XS 09 Plate - Zermatt Silver with ST3 remap (eco map), Garmin 1490T Sat Nav, Rear Seat Entertainment kit

I retro fitted a pair of AFS Xenons, without all the gizmos on the car (steering sensor etc.) and used them as normal static headlights, plugged directly into a spare terminal in the under bonnet fuse box to come on with the ignition, alla DRL's and had no problems whatsoever, passed the MoT etc. but could be removed/swapped for the halogen ones in 10 mins if needed.

Quite remarkable how much Xenons are better than Halogens even with £30 fancy philips bulbs Thumbs Up

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Santorini Black

I have just retrofitted a pair of standard Xenons to my 2008 FL 2, and they are working brilliantly with no problems whatsoever. You need to get a local dealer to code the vehicle to register it has Xenons, but once done, mine worked perfectly. The levelling system is still manual of course, but works fine. If there is a problem at MOT, then simply put back the halogen lamp units for the test - it takes less than 5 minutes to swap out both sides, so that is not an issue. This mod is really worthwhile, as the improvement is massive Very Happy Freelander 2 HSE - Santorini Black, privacy glass, dog guard, cargo divider.

Best mod I've ever done!

Wouldn't be without them. Had the choice of adding them in for my new FL2 (coming next week) but decided to save the £700 and retrofit them again. Thumbs Up

so on the basis of reverting back to the halogen units for the MOT's do we know if we would have to re-program the car to tell it it no longer has xenons? Stands to reason you would which would mean paying LR or what ever to change it to halogen then back to xenon again, seems like a lot of faff every 12 months.

I would love xenon's and if I had to buy another LR it would be top of my wish list but sadly im stuck with the one iv got now and have to make the best of it but really want xenon's!! lol 2007 '57' Freelander 2 XS Sumatra Black TD4 Automatic - Standard (for now!)

Hi all, just fitted some oem xenon headlight units to my 57 plate td4 hse and the lights flicker when the engine is running, do I need to have the software reprogrammed to enable the xenons?

hi

I am thinking of a xenon upgrade.

Is the xenon balast built into the headlight ?
also, does it use the same connector as halogen lights,

just wanted to make sure I know what I need before I start the mini project Smile

Hi to all
I, as pcheaven, have started to buy material. I have the both d1s bulbs taht cames with the ignitors. What ballast do you recomend me to buy, and what wires/cables will I´m going to need. My Range Rover does not lose oil, footprint the ground he walks on

I fitted some freelander 2 xenon headlamp units a while back, replacing the
standard halogens,I have a SE model so headlamp washers are standard. At MOT time this year I got an advisory
notice that the headlamp adjusters weren't automatic and this would be a failure next time.Spoke to local dealer about retro fitting the Freelander 2 system, they said about £200 for the sensors etc + a massive £400 for a wiring loom and even after all that they wouldn't guarantee the ecu would make it all work.I found the solution,a Hella retro fit kit, took absolutely ages to track one down,a company in germany are doing them for around £200 delivered, fitted it today works a treat, also bought a new light switch unit without the manual adjustment(£50).The kit from Hella comes with motors but they're too big to fit inside the lamp unit and would require a lot of modification so I bench tested an old lamp unit I had and found the motors that are standard in the Land Rover units work fine with the Hella system.PM me for info, not sure about posting rules for obtaining the Hella kit. Freelander 2 SE TD4 AUTO Sumatra Black.
