o well its done now as i said i can just pop the other bulbs in for the mot till i can get my hands on some oem ones.

The pattern of light depends on the lens i think so a clear lens has the metal but which deflects the light downwards where as older cars have patterned lenses.

have to say that looks totally wrong, you have fitted HID bulbs to halogen lenses, guaranteed that will blind other road users

its your car its up to you but i would remove them sooner than later

its the camera they look good in real life and as i said previously they don't blind oncoming vehicles I tried it with a friend

Tried with a friend on a small road in pitch black? Was your friend standing aside of the road or was he in his car driving towards you at max allowed speed with your two cars "meeting" in a turn?

In my experience homemade xenons always annoy oncoming motorists.

I've made one really bad picture to illustrate my point. I know this picture is wrong from your point-of-view since it shows driving habits of continental EU but this is where homemade xenons really are dangerous since one driver is in danger of not seeing the profile of the turn before it is to late. In estonia with population of 1,3M we have had a few accidents like this. The driver who blinded the oncoming motorist has always left the scene and has never been cought.



But if you are 100% sure that it is not possible for your lights to blind another driver in such circumstances then go right ahead.

It will blind other driver, fact. The shine path when used on halogen lenses is not directed in the correct way. I'd send you a PM but since I'm new to the site it won't let me. I appreciate all the discussions on the issues of the bulbs but from what I can see this is only an issue with the high beams as aren't the low beams projector housings anyway (or did I get it the wrong way around)?

Either way, the Mrs. wants HIDs so here I am on Christmas Eve trying to install them as a surprise. I've done HIDs on a couple of other cars but the Freelander 2 has more wires and rather than get it wrong, I thought I'd ask someone who had done it!

Moreover, the vehicle is in a country which doesn't have any such regulations on bulbs, etc. and loads of cars have modifications that probably would not pass any EU regulations - different rules.

The kit is obviously expecting a 2-wire circuit from each light to go in to the ballast, and then back out to the bulb, but there are 3 wires on the back of each bulb - I assume the other is for circuit supervision? There is also a module of some kind in-between the two bulbs - what is this and do I need to do anything with it?

I've searched around on the net but haven't found anything.

Have retrofitted MY2013 Xenons to my MY2011 FL2 and it just passed its MOT without issue!

Can I just say, as an MOT tester, you most definitely don't have to have self levelling units fitted. The requirements are that IF the car had self levelling headlamps, the self levelling units have to be working. If they are not fitted, they cannot be tested so they cannot be failed. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I e just bought 2012 projector standard lights to facelift my 2010 GS.

I was looking to buy Nightbreakers for the projector but wonder if anybody has fitted xenon HID bulbs with ballast?
If so I would appreciate comments and make of units purchased.

Do a search about fitting hid lights. Ignoring the legal aspects, the ecu controlling the light can sense the difference between a halogen bulb and an hid setup, and they are factory programmed for each. If it senses hid when it's programmed for halogen , then it can flicker the lights due to the ecu trying out different voltages/currents.

In the dark you can see the lights change brightness when switched on at first.
