The new Defender is coming as the present model has got to be phased out by 2017 but will go by 2015 due to airbags or rather lack of them. LR have gone as far as they can with it. They are also wanting to exploit the SUV market particually in the U.S/Middle East etc where these will be fashionable.Business is business & why sell 3000 units a year when they can do 30,000? There will be rugged versions for farmers etc. Evoque Coupe is to draw customers from the likes of Audi TT etc & it has done exactly this. Coupe rear seat buttons are being modified due to slow speed. The design is what it is a Coupe & has plenty of room in the rear. Loadspace on the car is smaller than a FL2 but that is because the car is smaller. What is the point of making a vehicle identical in size to the Freelander? Evoque 5 Door to draw customers from Audi, BMW etc that want a luxury/sporty compact vehicle - it has suceeded in doing this too by being totally different. The Evoque won't be everyones cup of tea but neither is the FL2 or any car for that matter. I may sound a little biased as my Evoque goes into build in just over 2 weeks time. The Evoque should be haled as it is bringing in valuable revenue to LR that can be used in R&D for new vehicles, it is keeping up with times & bringing in customers to the brand that would otherwise have bought foreign. I personally think (sadly) that the FL3 won't come as the Defender will do everything that an FL3 will do plus more! I was told back in November that LR have a new model every year for the next 5 years, the Evoque being the first & there was no mention of a new Freelander. All new FFRR at the end of 2012. New RRS end of 2013. All new Discovery 2014, All new Defender 2015 (very likely apparently). (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red. (Past) RR Evoque Dynamic Lux Si4 In Firenze Red. (Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding. (Present) Freelander Metropolis 2015 MY In Santorini Black with Ivory Premium Leather. |

The Freelander is to be supplied as a knock down kit to India, were it will be assembled and sold into expanding new markets. I can see this leading to a situation were it will be avaialble for a long time to come and for those who "want one", they will get a glitzy version as is being shown with the spy photos.
