Got my Freelander back on Monday, dealer has replaced the sensor. Apparently had another one in with the same problem.

Hope it doesn't reoccur now!

I thought that I had a Dpf on my 59 reg until I read this thread and ive been dreading having a problem with it. I've been giving it a weekly run up the motorway to try to keep things right if i've only been pottering about in it.

Am I right in thinking it's only 2011 onwards that have them? If it is, it's one less thing for me to worry about.

My Xtype had a dpf and a weekly run up the motorway seemed to keep it ok. 15k miles when i sold it and it never had a problem My husband just got rid of his Audi A3 with 80k on and that never had a dpf problem either.

Yes Annie, manufactured late 2010 for the MY11 UK market, all to meet new EU5 emissions standards. If the DPF works correctly then black smoke is a thing of the past from the exhaust.

Aye, my 2011 sd4 190hp with just 5,200 miles from new gave the message DPF full. The handbook says to drive for 20/30 minutes at between 50/70 mph (I think it says) to regenerate it. As I live about 5 miles from the M1 it was not much of a problem. What would be the answer if you lived well out into the sticks, with no motorway close at hand. Must say for a £36k motor it's a very poor design IMHO.

DPF's on models built in 2009. Her ladyship's was built in October 2009, has a DPF on it. Delivered November 20th'09 and in March'10 she had her first and only (so far) DPF warning at 6,000+kms.

Local LR Official Service Centre had it for two days - cleaned it out and then reprogrammed the FL2 with new DPF software. No problems since and 80% of her driving is local short trips. Present kms 42,000+.

I believe the UK market was a year later, built in 2010 to meet the EU5 standard.

But just a minute - the DPF was clearly "work-in-progress" - so the Swiss were the guinea pigs in this experiment of environmental waste management. Jolly Good

Most European countries that demanded EU5 were the guinea pigs and only when forced did the UK adopt it, shows how confident they were in DPF's for diesels
Could it be that our small island just ain't big enough to get a good run out for regeneration anymore Must admit to not having a DPF problem show on the display, only the oil dilution after 12 months of mixed driving.

Having had a Jag XJ with DPF, whilst I never had a problem with it mainly due to the type of use, when I decided to change, the increasing number of reports about problems with lots of different DPF equipped makes of car caused me to buy one of the last non DPF equipped Freelanders rather than a new one. This technology is not properly developed and is almost self defeating in terms of emission reduction.

Have had 2 FL with DPF and never a minutes bother. Live in country area but we have a steep uphill overtaking lane on main road. Once a week Foot on floor and 90+ mph at top of hill. Doing this on a hill has engine working harder than on motorway. All FL2's (3) Gone
