Hi everyone,

Looking for advice as to a decent alloy wheel cleaner to use on my HSE standard alloys. A couple of the wheels have some black spots on them which seem reluctant to move. I have tried Autoglym Wheel Cleaner, T-Cut and even a clay bar but the spots seem very stubborn. Had a look on the 'net and found a non-acidic cleaner called Iron X which appears to do a good job. Can't seem to find this in the shops though.

Any advice welcomed  2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

Bought IronX via a well known internet auction site. Works well on GS wheels. Better than mucoff. Supposed to be able to use IronX on paintwork so shouldn't harm the laquer on the alloys. Use a protecting finish once the wheels are clean and dry to make them easier to clean next time. I used Planet Polish Wheel Seal+Shine.

I'd second the IronX, spray it on leave it for a couple of minutes then agitate with a good wheel brush. You should see the contamination turn a red/purple colour with in a few seconds.

Might also be worth looking at removing tar spots as well, i would pop over to Detailing World and have a look. Lots of information on general washing and waxing along with info on wheels. Also agree with Boss Bob on sealing the the wheels with a wax, all the muck and dust just comes off when you do a normal wash

Wolf chemicals Deironiser is great too, same as iron x, but you can let it dry on without worrying unlike iron x

Iron x soap gel is good for maintaining bodywork too, removed the ion deposits whilst you wash, lost the beading of my sealent though when I used it

Get a nose peg

now laugh you may but I use Cif Lemon oxy active ! about £2.00 a bottle & no idea whats in it but it cleans the inside of the wheel a treat & gets rid of the brake dust but it also cleans the calipers up as well ! I do also use hot water pressure washer as I have a hot outside tap & that really clears the grime.
