I have owned a number of cars with and without heated windscreens. Last car without it was my FL1 and it was sorely missed. I opted for it on the FL2 and it is useful but the PTC heater or whatever it's called seems quite good when the 'prog' button is pressed. So I was wondering how effective it is at defrosting without using the heated windscreen.

Quick enough for me. By the time I had scraped the small amount of ice from the side windows the other morning, the ice had melted on the windscreen but this PTC thing brings heat to the cabin before the engine warms so I just wondered how good it is on it's own. Mine is quite fast, we haven't had any sufficent frost/ice yet for me to test it out though, but in general frost it seems to have performed quite well, much better than the Freelander 1 we have . |

Pressing the prog button has no effect on the PTC heater, that's automatic based on outside temp

The heated screen is an excellent concept...guess the appreciation depends if you are over 6 foot tall and can reach the centre of the screen...

The program button for defrosting the car is by far the best I have had on any vehicle.

It would have taken more like 30 minutes to scrape the ice off the windscreen the other day. A colleague at work drives a Hyundai i20 and he left about 10 mins before me and walked to the car. When I got to mine he was busy scraping away (-5C) and I got in mine pressed the 'prog' button and managed to drive away whilst he was still scraping and spraying de-icer! Perhaps ring your local dealer and ask their opinion if you think it may not be functioning as it should. Not sure if it's covered by warranty though. I think one member said they had difficulty trying to get a repair under warranty. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby LOT (Lord of Time) - University of Gallifrey |
