This seems to have turned into a rant about the police. On a (possibly) practical note, I met a bloke in Alderley Edge (big houses, thieves' paradise) who bred mastiffs. Mastiffs don't bark, they just grip and hang on. He got back home one weekend and found the thief outside the front door with his arm still through the letter box. Been there hours. Trousers somewhat soiled. He was the only one in the road who never got burgled after that... Smile

Above was posted late last night. Whilst I think what I put was true I think it is worth taking your stance so now deleted.

It maybe down to the problem in a recent thread that some fail to make a valid point other than its carp, I don't like it, it's carp blah blah. Rolling Eyes

In all fairness AD72161, I read The Doctors post and it was to the point and very good, I also applaude him for taking it down.

The recent thread topic will go on forever, its a perennial match that one, the tone of some of the posts in this thread are less than palatable and don't really have a place on this forum, I pulled my comments as the mentality of the other posters is such, that a nasty war or words would only have resulted.

You have judged all posters with that comment, I think that is unfair, if you re-read my only post on this thread then I should not be judged as such.

You are right EY, I didn't mean to tar everyone with a single brush, I shouls have put "some of" into the sentence, a good example of why we should be more careful before we post.

This works..

We have found two methods which work really well.
A cheap rape alarm fastened to something like a gate but out of sight hidden on the back say the gatepost. You remove the cord and attach clear fishing line which loops over a nail on the inside of the gate. You have to unclip the loop yourself to get in but once left in place the line pulls out the alarm plug when the gate/door is opened and it's ear splitting. Most thieves have no idea where the noise is coming from and run.
An electric horse fencer connected to the garage door or bars works superbly. We had ours hidden in a false roof and attached to the window bars of a building they kept breaking into. The first time we used it we had no more attempts for three years later, word went round those mad Bu***s had connected to the mains (we hadn't of course) .
Of course it isn't legal but they are hardly likely to report you are they? !! Very Happy Why have Igot a Firenze Red Freelander? Because I kept losing the silver one in car parks....

Well if they were arrested after being zapped they could then sue you if they are injured (as daft as it sounds). I got a B+ in my first year of law studies for an essay on the duty of care owed and liability for people legally or illegally on an occupiers land under the Occupiers Liability Act 1957 and the Occupiers Liability Act 1984.

3 key elements to establish:

1. Duty of care is owed
2. Duty has been breached
3. The breach caused a loss (injury)

There is a requirement under the Occupiers Liability Act 1984 on your part to put up warning signs of the hazard. Sh Censored isn't it? Rolling Eyes LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
