whilst on the subject of fuel why are the fuel hoses on my tractors all becoming porous since the introduction of biofuel to gas oil. I've swapped around 10m of hose in the last few weeks and apparently the new hose will not rot like the old ones did even though they are exactly the same Confused
something to do with the reaction between the old fuel and the new in the inner wall of the hose???

Is this with B20?
I wouldn't have thought that there should be any reaction between old and new fuel since the old fuel is pure dino diesel and the new fuel is just biodiesel + dino diesel Confused

CG - are you sure the holes in the hoses isn't due to the chickens trying to get to the bio-fuel - they like corn.... Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

Hi guys. Just slightly of topic but Ive put 14 litres of UNLEADED in my 1999 a6 tdi Big Cry Then preceeded to put 55 litres of diesel in straight after Thumbs Up seems to be running ok but lumpy!! m assuming that putting some 2T in will help the process of flushing it all thru?

many thanks..

Ooh! 14 litres is quite a lot, they recommend no more than 5 litres and you are in with a chance. Diesel components and fuel pumps are made to a higher tolerance than petrol engines and petrol will wash away any lubricant, also the seals might be short lived. Two stroke oil won't help the flushing but may, just may help with lubrication until you have pure diesel back in the system again.
This is your biggest nightmare, the loss of lubrication. I would have drained at the first opportunity and refilled with diesel.
Let's hope there's no long term damage.

Yeah I know!!!! Its complete nightmare Censored The funny thing is Ive never owned a petrol car!!!! What I was thinking nobody will ever know.. Yeah I know the problems it will cause but to late now but just wanted to confirm that the 2T will help the lubrication if Im lucky enough to survive the nightmare Big Cry

So you've a 20%/80% mix of petrol to diesel in the tank.

Think I would try to reduce the mix as soon as I could i.e. every 50 miles or so go back to garage and put another 5 litres of diesel in Idea

Yep 20/80! Ive spoke to a few vag ppl and they have said the vag engine will probs cope with it but will come with the usual misfires and bad starting. They have advised the same thing and to add 2T to help with the lubrication. In fact one guy said his car hasnt run as good since Rolling with laughter Any more advise would be helpful of course..

many thanks

United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Fuji White

I would bung a litre of 2-stroke in there pronto - it might smoke a little but will help slow down ant damage to the fuel pump. Cheers,

Combine both mcphersonstrut's and RazMan's advice.
Pour 1 litre of 2T and progresivelly add diesel as the "mixture" is consumed away...

But better drain it. Use the simple and at everyone's reach way...
Disconnect the fuel line from the input to the fuel filter and if you don't have at your disposal an electric pump, use a hand pump to pump out all the fuel from the tank. Then reconnect back the fuel line and fill it with diesel.
Any indy garage has an electric fuel pump laying around from previous repairs... It doesn't have to be in parameters, just to do the job.

Re: 2-stroke oil and diesel

yamaha-fan wrote:
To all interested:
due to the pollution control measures of the EC diesel-oil is nearly sulphur free and contains up to 5% of bio-diesel. Sulphur has the property to grease the high pressure injection pump and the injectors. Without sulphur, the reduced greasing property of the new diesel has already shown negativ impacts on the long-term stability of the injectors and the high pressure pump. The pump manufacturers have tried to react by lining the moving parts of the pumps with teflon or other suitable material. However, the long term stability is still not achieved as with the old (sulphor contained) diesel.
The engine-research centre of a well known German car manufacurer has conducted some long term tests of diesel additives to find out whether any one of them will have an impact on the long term reliability of the diesel engine components. This introduction to explain were my information comes from.
The results of this research: any diesel additive of any manufacturer presently on the market is not worth the money!
BUT: 2-stroke oil, which we use in our motor saws, lawn mower or in 2-stroke motor engines has shown to have an extreme positive impact on diesel engines, if such 2-stroke oil is added to the diesel in a homoeophatic dosis of 1:200. In practical terms: 0,300 litre of 2-stroke oil into the 70l diesel tank. The 2-stroke oil will be absorbed by the diesel (emulsion) and grease every moving part of the high pressure pump and the injectors.
Besides this, the 2-stroke oil will keep the diesel engine clean, as it burnes cleaner as the diesel itself.
In other words, the 2-stroke oil has a much lower ash-content as diesel, when burned. This proven fact delays the DPF (diesel particulate (soot) filter) to clogg, and the "burn free" process of the DPF will be much less.
One more information: in Germany we have to present our cars every 2 years to the TUV -Technical Supervision Organisation - who will check, amongs others, the pollution of petrol and diesel engines.
The measured cloud-factor of a diesel engine without use of 2-stroke oil has been 0,95.
The same factor with the use of 2-stroke oil has been 0,47 - reduction of nearly half of the soot particles.
Besides this, the use of 2-stroke oil in the diesel will increase the milage by 3-5%.

i thank you sir! Bow down Bow down Bow down
a crane driver i used to work with told me off adding 2 stroke years ago.....
I've had 1.9 tdi 1994 audi 80.....sold at 192k still going strong
and octavia 1.9 tdi 1998 sold at 187k with no problems......but i never ran them with two stroke...
then
i bought a 210k audi a6 v6 2.5 tdi,and the rattle on start up was worse than either of my 1.9 tdi's.....i found your wise words...i started the addition of 2 stroke quite heavily at first....im now down to 200/1 mix,and it has has made the car purrrrrrrrrrrrr

words can't describe the difference.......again.i thank you!

and i laugh at the anti brigade hohoho Laughing Laughing Laughing Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Quotes from a post of mine yesterday
Quote 1
One guy i know has used petrol as fuel a few times Rolling Eyes (in his diesel)
He drops the incoming quick release off the fuel filter (in front of the engine) and puts a compressed airline in the fuel filler spout (with a rag around it)
Connects up the air compressor and pressurises the tank slightly and pushes the petrol right through the system into a bucket.
65 litres later
He fills the tank with diesel and starts up the compressed air again, purging the lines to the filter with diesel
Reconnects the filter and disconnects the incoming connection to the fuel pump and starts the compressed air again and purges out the fuel between the filter and the pump.
Opens the compression nut on two injectors and cranks the engine over
Waits for a good squirt of diesel from around the injector lines where they go through the compression nut and closes them
Repeats for the next two injectors
Everytime it fires and the only drama afterwards was the engine wouldnt fire if shutdown immediately after stopping the vehicle
So he had to bleed two injectors again and the engine fires
Run the engine for 30 secs before shutting down and this trouble doesnt occur

Quote 2
I know of too many people that have run petrol through them and not had any issues
Including one bloke who put 10 liters in before he realised he had screwed up
So he hung up the bowser and put in 50 litres of diesel
Then bought 200mls of two stroke oil and added it to the tank too
The cashier must have really wondered what the vehicle had for an engine

A mate with a D3 spent 14k in a dealer after LR said no warranty now unless a dealer does the prescribed wrong fuel work on the vehicle.

His wife did it to their Audi Q7 and engine collapsed within a fortnight so he decided not to risk the D3 and got the work done

His boy has since done it to his D4
The local mechanic purged the tank and refilled it with diesel
35000kms later it has missed a beat (and it gets flogged everywhere)
