So does anyone (who supports use of 2SO in diesel fuel) think there is any issue using TC-W3 spec oil rather than a JASO spec oil?

The advantages of JASO spec oils seem to be at higher temp and rpm which don't really apply here and the much lower sulphated ash levels of TC-W3 spec oil would seem advantageous for engines with DPFs.

I know the Yanks tend to use TC-W3 spec oil because their pollution regs make JASO spec oil hard to find over there.

Hi kaanage

if your rig hasn't got a DPF you can use any 2sO as long as it complies at least with Jaso-FB quality standards. The oil you are referring to has been optimised in order not to unnecessarily pollute the water. In your decision you should just make sure that it is low ash and NOT fully synthetic. In Australia, Shell has updated their packaging so they're selling off their older bottles/packs of Nautilus TC-W3 2 stroke outboard oil much cheaper than it normally is. Wherever I can find it, I'll buy all of it!

Any other Aussies out there, take note!! (except maybe those in Victoria)

Whats the verdict on BG244 ? there is so much hype in the adds, does it do what it says on the tin ?

Guess if yours was already running clean and lubed on 2S0 then there wouldnt be any difference ?

Nothing fantastic to report I'm afraid. I think the 2so had already done the good for my engine. I have still half a tank left but I am not expecting any outstanding differences although it does sometimes feel a bit pokier when putting my foot down at low revs in a high gear.

Would you be willing to not use 2SO for a tank to test out the BG244 on its own, wizking?
If it works the same, it would be good for those who don't want to use a "non-diesel additive" (ie 2sO)

The bg244 is a once a year application and this was put in without any 2so as the tank was run down. As for the 2so, I will be using it the minute I next fill up. Thumbs Up

Adding 2-stroke oil to the fuel tank

Apologies if I am repeating what someone else may have commented on recently, but the main reason for the addition of approx 30cl of 2-stroke oil for every tank fill (1:200 2-SO to diesel) is to lubricate the fuel injection pump, the injection valves and injectors. With a minimum amount of sulphur now in modern diesel fuel (<0.1%), it is desirable to provide extra lubrication. Without the additional lube, wear rate is increased between moving parts, such as the injection pump pistons and liners, with a resultant decrease in fuel pressure. This will eventually lead to poor combustion, which doesn't do the engine any favours, and will entail serious inroads into your wallet. Even if a cheap and cheerful 2-stroke oil is used, it is far cheaper to remove the turbo-charger to chemically clean the nozzle ring and turbine blades than to have to buy new HP common rail fuel system parts. As long as a 'low ash' rated 2-SO is used, then there should be no problem.

I agree with your reasoning above. The use of Jaso-FC compliant 2sO is highly recommended. Here a real lfe example of what 2sO REALLY does.

When my wife got her Disco3 TDV6 (153000km, 2005 model) I connected my Hawkeye diagnostic tool to get a readout of the current situation. Various error codes were present in the EMS (Diesel) routine. The most critical were variations in diesel injector efficiency. After 5000km with 2sO treatment, the following picture presents itself:

EMS No fault codes recorded!!! Very Happy With kind regards

It takes a long time to recognise that your fuel system is being lubricated correctly.

Seriously who are you? what are your qualifications? and why haven't my various diesel engines died on me due to the lack of two stroke oil?

whilst on the subject of fuel why are the fuel hoses on my tractors all becoming porous since the introduction of biofuel to gas oil. I've swapped around 10m of hose in the last few weeks and apparently the new hose will not rot like the old ones did even though they are exactly the same Confused
something to do with the reaction between the old fuel and the new in the inner wall of the hose???

On the day that Shell has admitted that one of it's North Sea oil rigs has been leaking oil for the last 30+ hrs into the sea (they are still trying to shut the leak down as I write) is oil wars about to break out here again on Freel2 with reigning protagonists CG & DiscoG engaged by the new arrival engchamp.

I hear Sky Sports are investigating the audience potential for 2SO wrestling in HD - Martin is currently in contractual negotiations Wink

Is this with B20?
I wouldn't have thought that there should be any reaction between old and new fuel since the old fuel is pure dino diesel and the new fuel is just biodiesel + dino diesel Confused
