The trouble with quoting Wikipedia is that most of it seems to be B0LLOC0KS, Just like this forum if some one says its true other halfwits believe it. Best to quote The Oxford English dictionary?

Which seems to suggest the opposite of Xenophobe is Xenophile Thumbs Up

Xenophily/ia seemingly is a madeup word in science fiction refering to Humans that F@ck Extraterrestials Shocked

Junior you are correct in that the OED does declare that the noun, a Xenophile, is a person who likes foreigners or things foreign. The English language has embraced Greek words as it has words from other classic languages for example Latin, as well as modern languages particularly French and German.

That's the organic beauty of the modern English language. As such my reference to its (xeno) Greek origins and its other acknowledged derivatives is valid following the ridiculous reactionary response to my usage of the word xenophobic which prompted posting such as the one you refer to.

And righty, you were also wise to expose sci-fi's prevalent malfeasance in tardy lexicalisation.

Oh, enough already!

Athelstan, I'm truly sorry for winding you up.

Ordinarily I'd stay well clear of this sort of stuff (life's too short!) but, I guess having had a good lunch etc I was just in a mood to press your buttons Smile

No harm intended and once again my apologies. Thumbs Up

the dipping system in mainland Europe has usually been to dip the lights straight downwards and not, like ours, to one side or the other. This is why beam benders are not needed for Mainland European cars coming over to the UK.

A more accurate description would be that the dipping system in the uk creates a sharp kick up of light on the left and the european system produces a flat cut off. The beam benders do not bend a beam they simply attempt to remove the kich up of light on the left side.
I hope nobody needed to use a dictionary to understand my reply, I have always thought that language should be kept as simple as possible as use of unfamiliar words leads to a failure to communicate and language is a tool of communication.
Just my opinion of course. Whistle
