Junior you are correct in that the OED does declare that the noun, a Xenophile, is a person who likes foreigners or things foreign. The English language has embraced Greek words as it has words from other classic languages for example Latin, as well as modern languages particularly French and German. That's the organic beauty of the modern English language. As such my reference to its (xeno) Greek origins and its other acknowledged derivatives is valid following the ridiculous reactionary response to my usage of the word xenophobic which prompted posting such as the one you refer to. And righty, you were also wise to expose sci-fi's prevalent malfeasance in tardy lexicalisation. |

the dipping system in mainland Europe has usually been to dip the lights straight downwards and not, like ours, to one side or the other. This is why beam benders are not needed for Mainland European cars coming over to the UK. |

A more accurate description would be that the dipping system in the uk creates a sharp kick up of light on the left and the european system produces a flat cut off. The beam benders do not bend a beam they simply attempt to remove the kich up of light on the left side.
