I'ed rather pay for a brand new one than a ebay special and take the risk of it not been possible to be reprogrammed.

I have a 100 700mb CD Roms at the office for various things, they are not rewrittable ones, but feel free to make me an offer, you never know Phillips might be pulling my leg and i could reuse them Rolling with laughter

CG, Re: think owners should know more about their vehicle!!!
Dealer technicians should be better trained on using diagnostic system.
I personally watched one trying to programme a new fob to my first FL2 (ex demo and dealer could not find 2nd key) he hadn't a clue. Claimed fob I had been using was now faulty and ordered another new one.

He kept answering "yes" to a screen promt "are all keys present" when should have been "no" this caused all his problems. He would not change his mind and his foreman said " technician working on your car is the trained person for diagnostics"

I have programmed many keys and fobs using Ford WDS which is the same basic system as LR, The FL2 was a Ford product and used many common parts. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

Update from me Very Happy

I bought a sealed new fob from ebay for £50, key blank for £6.75 went to my local Leeds indy. They charged me £50 to do a software upgrade to sort a delay when starting in severe cold weather. replaced the boot switch that was faulty for £38 and programed the key for free, result Thumbs Up

Just need to get the blade cut Very Happy

Update:

I spoke at length with my local LR Service manager today. He told me that a second hand key is useless as they are a 'one shot' fob and paired to a car during the initial programming and cannot be recoded to match another car. They can however be recoded for the SAME CAR- this makes sense when some people are reporting a re-program when a new key is 'introduced' to their existing one.

So basically only a brand new fob can be matched to your car. A used fob can only be recoded alongside a new fob on the same car.
Anyone need a fob-sized paperweight? Whistle Cheers,
Raz

Update: I found a new fob on eBay and went into my local LR dealership who programmed it for about £35 while they were doing a software update on my GS.

Both fobs now working well Thumbs Up Cheers,

Hello everyone

Another key fob related issue, similar to many Ive read about here - fob intermittantly not working to lock doors.

It seems a battery replacement is required but requires the cutting and re-sealing of the fob by some means. Main Stealer here in Abu Dhabi has quoted 250 gbp plus 50 for programming!! I am therefore considering a used one from ebay and have found a company here who claims they can re-programme it suit my car.

I am informed that I require part ref LR013005 but not sure about the 2 different types of frequency which there are. Does anyone know about this issue? Also there seems to be some debate whether or not a used fob can even be actually re-programmed. Is a brand new key fob required that has never previously been programmed required?

Any help or advise would, as always, be greatly appreciated.

Advance Thanks

The part number you refer to is, I believe, the part number for a brand new unprogrammed fob. You cannot reprogramme a fob that had been used on another car, you can only reprogramme a fob that has been used on your car.

From what I understand, if you have just one fob and buy a new unprogrammed fob, they will both be reprogrammed to the same frequency but DIFFERENT from the previous frequency. If the 'missing' fob then turns up, it cannot be used anymore.

I'm sure I'll be corrected if that's wrong. Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Hi!

You can add the missing key later when it shows up again. I have done it so I know. (Using IDS/SSD)
Cheers!

If your fob isn't behaving itself... then a replacement is the logical choice.

But as it's not working anyway - having the battery changed whether by yourself DIY or someone electronically competent it's a low cost fix which in my case has now worked for 2.5 years... I paid £8 for the battery. 2002 Honda VFR800

The key fob for my '08 GS appears to have stopped working - placed in the dock it allows me o start the vehicle. However, none of the lock/unlock functions will work - they were ok yesterday although the unlock function was a bit intermittent and sometimes required a couple of presses of the button.

I'm suspecting the rechargeable battery is u/s. I see some folk have replaced the battery either with a rechargeable or ordinary cell with some success. Is this easy and does anyone have a reference for the cells? Also, IF is buy a new fob from LR can they be programmed by a dealer without the vehicle being there as well?

Cheers

Chaz

They need the car and all keys you have. If you forget your spare key it will be disabled, but you can enable it later again. The problem it that every time they have to crank up the SDD- diag it cost you....
