If you have credit card insurance with CCP (you may have, as the banks are desperate to sell it) it should cover you for loss of keys - house and car.

Just bagged a spare fob on eBay (and a new key blade too) so I will be off to my local LR dealer to get it programmed with any luck. A local key cutter should complete the job. Cheers,

Will be interested to hear if they can program the fob - most people who have tried fobs from e$ay find they are un-usable due to being programmed to another vehicle.... Big Cry

Hope you are successful Thumbs Up 2002 Honda VFR800

My logic goes something like this:
If a new fob is purchased to replace a lost one, the remaining fob needs to be reprogrammed along with the new one (to 'lock out' the missing one) Therefore it follows that a second hand one can be reprogrammed.
Its a theory anyway - I'll keep you posted Whistle Cheers,

I must admit I am following your logic - seems good to me!!!

After the several threads about dealing with a lost key - makes you think that it is possible. 2002 Honda VFR800

they can not reprogram a keyfob that has already been programmed, i believe they have a one shot memory, once written to it can not be written to again

But your correct in saying that all keys need to be present to be programmed all at the same time

someone on here did say that after loosing a key , they bought a new one and had the old reprogrammed to make the lost one in valid. So maybe it is possible? seems odd if they arnt as hundred of keys get lost . At work

It would be good if this could be cleared up, a post in the past from 'druand' states that they are re-programmable.

Quote:
No, keys are reprogrammable.
If you have 2 originals 3rd(new key) is added to existing programme.
If you only have 1 original(1 lost) Car programme deleted, new one installed, old key and new key programmed to car. Lost key of no use to car but could be reprogrammed and added as a 3rd key if found.

Some say don't buy off Ebay as they might be S/H, some say they can be programmed and some say buy new.
