Just picked up my 07 plated Freelander 2 2.2 SE diesel with 39k on the clock....what a great car.

However, when I accelerate I can hear what I can only describe as a pinking sound (like years ago when you put unleaded petrol in your car and the valves needed adjusting). it's not there when I rev it in neutral only when I accelerate.

Any ideads ??

There has been many reports on here of the air intake pipe loose, there is a bolt on the inside of the nearside air intake on the front wing, this causes a rattle, it may be what you are hearing?

No its not that, its all rubber mounted and has plastic press collets holding it all down.

taz means remove the passenger side indicator repeater, look through the hole and you will see a screw that sometimes comes slack

Know exactly what you mean, i put it down to the quality of the fuel and am now using Shell Diesel which seems to have made a big difference, used to use supermarket stuff and thats when i would notice the "pinking" mines a 07 SE as well

Not trying to be confrontational, I genuinely don't know, but is it possible to get pre-ignition in a diesel?
