England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

Parsonally I agree with Clarkson [ now there's a first ], cars with LED running lights look like a council house at Christmas, I would go for the Scandinavian option. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.

I found this on the Disco 3 forum. I think this looks really good if you want to fit DRLs and make it look 'factory'. I believe the author bought them from e-bay. Combined with the relay you found RazMan, that would be my choice.

Russ, that looks exactly how I want my lights to look - a real 'factory' look and a superb bit of modding too. I wonder where the LED rings come from. *edit* Found 'em - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Scooter-Motorb...1185wt_911
Not sure if the 70mm or 75mm versions would be more suitable - has anyone got a foglight to hand?

Funny enough I did a similar mod to some Mini sidelights a few years back. I used them in my toy car (home built mid engined V6 ) feeding a strip of leds into the reflector housing - they look very similar.

Update: I have sourced a spare set of foglights and after 'cooking' them in the oven (don't tell SWMBO Whistle ) the lenses pop out to gain access to the reflectors. I reckon a 70mm LED ring will just about squeeze in there with a little bit of modding so I have ordered a pair from China - my cunning plan commences Wink
If the LEDs are not bright enough then there is always the CCFL option but I didn't really want to complicate things too much. I will post up some pics when I make some more progress. Cheers,
Raz

At what temperature did you "cook" them Question

I ve thought to do this to the main lighting module (beams, side lights, trafficators, module). There is a lot of unused space in there to put a day light, but I m afraid, I m not a good baker...

I found that about 15 mins at 180 degrees was enough to soften the bonding compound, and with a bit of gentle levering with a few different tools (I used a large screwdriver and a metal ruler) I managed to ease the glass lense assembly from the plastic housing. Take your time though - it is easy to break something if you rush it. Cheers,
Raz

RazMan,

Keep us all up-dated

(because I have ordered a pair of 70mm Angel Eyes 21 SMD LED Ring Car Light White from a well known auction site from China)

There will be with me in about 21 days ?? but to find time to fit them will be in the new year !!

I will be interested to how your going to wire them up. Easy to wire into the side light wiring, but I would like them to come on when ignition is live, IE so I don't need to turn them on every day, they come on automatically.

so whats the best (and easiest ) ignition live under the bonnet !! which will not upset any ECU's or sensors.

All the best JP Thumbs Up

From what I've read on various threads you may be better passing the "positive" lead through the passenger side bulkhead and connecting to a spare fuse slot with a fly-lead fuse thingy.

There should be at least one which is ignition live switched as it is used to power the sat-navs when retrofitted into the cubby hole.

The Time are changing, And so glad you don't agree with Clarkson all the time (ever throw I worked with him for a short time) I can't agree with him all the time.

LED lights or Day time lights are law I think from 2012 ?? On all new cars to be sold in the UK.
So that's why one manufacturer after another is following Audi's stupidity. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
