England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Tonga Green

Yesterday - as I approached a traffic light in 1st gear I took my foot off all pedals.

Was really surprised at the result - it just kept moving like an automatic Confused

Nice to know I can't stall it Thumbs Up

SO does this happen in ALL gears? Question 2002 Honda VFR800

You can stall it. Just press the brake... Laughing Laughing Laughing
Except the cases when the clutch REALLY slips. Mr. Green
Not quite like an automatic...

My reference to 'just like an automatic' just related to when you put it into drive with no brake on and it moves slowly....

My first car was an automatic - much prefer manuals - but lets not go there Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Sumatra Black

Hi, re my original post, was out in car as a passenger ( got knocked off bike so still sore)
Car in 5th with no foot on accelerator at 30mph - kept going till at 35mph.
Cannot see this is right? heaven forbid but if you collapsed at wheel it would carry on till it hit something ????

I understand the anti stall but should it drive like this ?

Thanks again 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

simple explanation, every time he stalled he sent you all back in time then and repeated the manoeuvre with a few more revs on Whistle At work

Last winter on slippery surfaces, i found the anti stall feature a pain at times and had to change down to contol the speed.
It seems to more noticable when the engine is cold. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

Must say I always thought the 'autopilot' was more of a feature rather than a problem. Used to do it on my original FL too.
I still find it fascinating and probably a massive irritation for people behind me at traffic lights as I coast up at idle speed and they can't figure out how I'm going so slow!
Have always found it can do pretty good inclines too especially in first. Speed bumps in car parks etc.

As my off-road instructor used to shout at me "FLAT FEET, FLAT FEET" meaning take 'em off the pedals! 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

I could understand 'creeping' at traffic lights or slow speed, but my concern is that is 'accelerated' yesterday from 30 to 35 MPH whilst no foot on 'gas' by itself.
What happens heavens forbid it you took ill- it would just carry on, I had expected in say 5/6 gear (manual) for it to slow down to a 'crawl' when no foot on 'gas'
Just worried and should I get it checked out at LR dealer?

so if i understand this correctly when:

a) you take your feet off the pedals and
b) take your hands off the steering wheel

the car/truck/FL2 will keep driving and turn you into the kerb Whistle

That's good Thumbs Up means the car is going to mopve you off the carriageway - thereby allowing other motorists to continue on their journey - how considerate LR have been Confused 2002 Honda VFR800

If the car sped up from either you have a serious/dangerous fault or the gear you was in was to high for the conditions, ie your in 5th on tickover Question

Tickover is around 900rpm, 5th or 6th gear at tickover equates to 30-35mph. It cannot 'crawl' at tickover in that gear, a driver should be in the appropriate gear for the speed they are travelling, a crawl in that gear equals a stalled car.

....... unless I have completely misunderstood Confused
