I would expect it to maintain idle revs on the engine and whatever the equivalent road speed is each gear. Is this what is happening or are the engine revs well above this? There should be plenty of torque to deal with the flat or slight inclines. |

I would say it is completely normal, the car has masses of torque and will quite happily climb on tickover. Modern cars will not make you lurch forward when you take your foot off the throttle, it needs to burn the unburnt gasses for tighter emissions control, the BMW 1 series we have at work is OTT for this and you think it's not going to slow. |

It is indeed useful in certain off road situations. |

When we were off in Derbyshires lanes The Docs FL2 refused to stall despite some very steep rocky terrain - I thought this was the anti-stall feature of the newer manuals.

i remeber that on one of the l/rover drive days that the instructor said there was an antistall program when i asked what what this did he showed us he took the vehicle up to a slight obstruction with all feet off the control and the car compensated for this and accelerated slightly and went over the obstruction. this is what you might have experanced rainy-city

bigalf1961, going up the steep incline I imagine this could be what was happening. the other part about running away a bit is something else and should not happen. Iain |

For fuel economy around town on the flat try 5th gear and take your foot off the off the accelerator at around 25-26mph. The anti-stall keep it going and gives excellent fuel economy; the anti stall even copes with small inclines too
