The automatic gearbox automatically adjusts its shift patterns to suit driving style. You take the trailer off but the car still thinks its there. I imagine this is the cause of the woes, although the dealer should know this?

Thanks that makes some sense as it holds on to gears for longer and drops in to higher gears when not under load. It also affects the cars stability. Is this because its in the wrong gear ? |

Stability should not be an issue, although if it drops a gear when your not expecting it, it will be unnerving.

Quite likely to be because it's in the wrong gear and therefore delivering too much torque.

Mine does similar, after towing or when starting to tow the gearbox is a little erratic for the first few miles but after that it settles down and is fine. The auto box adapts to your driving style and adjusts accordingly, hence when you first connect the trailer it still remembers your style of driving when solo so it takes a few miles to realise, hence vice versa when you disconnect the trailer. No instances of lumpy running or erratic tickover though.

Just like to say, mine has done this since I've had it, also done the earth strap and still does it, didnt think the two would be connected, the memory in the box needs to acclimatise to the different operating conditions Just takes about ten miles or so and its fine on mine. It also before the earth strap and after pulls away in 2nd unless I put it in to Command shift and pull the stick. Last edited by ad210358 on 3rd Nov 2011 10:22 am. Edited 1 time in total |
