England 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Sumatra Black
Rear pads fitted in 15min

I fitted new rear pads today and it took me less than 15 min and it saved me £120 that the stealer was going to charge me.

I am not a mechanic or have a well equipped garage but for the sake of saving over £100 I am happy to have a go.

So don't be scared to at least have a look at doing little jobs yourself .

+1 to that.

Dealer quoted £172 to supply and fit.
I got £44 OE pads from LR dealer on ebay and fitted genuine replacements in one hour (box included spring clips and replacement screws for the callipers). I did it on my drive with trolley jack. Most of the time was spent jacking up, taking the wheels off, and moving all the tools around.

Did mine this time last year. As everyone has said they are dead easy, most of the time is taken in jacking up and removing/refitting the wheels. My complete set both front/rear lasted 37k, although the fronts were in slightly better condition than the rears.

Mine is an auto

Rear pads called it a day at 35k and fronts at 42k - each time probably had about 2 or 3k left in them

Rears wore down evenly but fronts wore inside pad down more so looked good through wheels but not so good when wheel off and you could see the inside front pads.

Anyone back off the bleed screw when pushing the piston back to prevent the c Censored p going back to the master cylinder? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It's ok chicken George I sent the wife for the test drive as I was dirty from rolling around on the ground.

I found the hardest part was where to jack and place the axel stands.

The car is a auto with 42,000 on the clock.

She returned in one piece (that's the wife ).
Plus the car was getting its three year service from Team Valley landrover the following day. SD4 Sports LE Black ...

find it strange that the front pads last longer than the rear pads ?

normally your front brakes do all the work.

i thought the same when i was told my rear pads were requiring replacing, LR said it was a smaller pad (i took that as thickness or size) and possibley made from a softer compound Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I was at 30,000 miles. Dealer said they were low on 30k service, and offered to do them. I declined, and had ordered a set from ebay by the time I picked the car up. Dealer said they were less than 3mm of pad. Hmm. Maybe they measure like the tyre fitters do by just putting their finger in the tread!

Anyway, by the time I had the wheel off, thought I might as well get on with it despite there being a fair bit of life left. MY10 TD4.e HSE
