Friendly note ont eh use of keyrings on the keys...

When working at BMW they have the same system, a fob that pulls itself into the dash. However, they don't like heavy weights hanging off them, as over time bouncing on roads it can bend inside the fob hole slightly and then it's stuck...cue very expensive new key hole and associated parts! (I was going to say ignition barrel but it's not really any more is it!?)  Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Bored on a Saturday morning, getting wupped on the Wii by my beloved daughter so i trolled on here for a few mins.

why do I need that. RRS has same recharge system as fl2, only it has a real key instead of the annoying dock and button...... the one thing that I have disliked since buying the car, well documented on here not just an ex owner with sour grapes.

I thought RRS had a smart type key with removable battery? If there is no dock how does it charge..confuzzled

keyless ignition on Discovery 4, RRSport and Evoque. Simply have to have the key within 1 metre of the vehicle for you to be able to start the engine. No docking of key fob needed or possible.

Freelander 2 keyfobs will also work if inserted upside down - only problem is that they'll only recharge if inserted the correct way up.

Keyless ignition can be expensive.... friends partner in a rush picking daughter up from nursery placed key on roof of Meganne when loading her into car seat, and drove off, key never seen again......... JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....

The neighbours must be keyless type, but the fob needs batteries, has CG got an iffy fob?

Got my 3 year old Freelander yesterday and had read this tip about swapping fobs just before picking the car up, i asked the previous owner about the fobs and he reckons he has only ever used the one and was not aware they charge! luckily the spare one works! phew! Black FL2

One of my key fobs failed, I suspected the battery might be at fault. I managed to get inside but broke it in the process as it appears to be a sealed type unit.

The battery has two contact points soldered on it, and these are then soldered on to the circuit board IIRC.

I found a source for the replacement battery, replaced and it's been working fine ever since.

The fob was a bit knackered after breaking into it, so I bought an old fob off fleabay and put the workings into it, had to add a wee drop of superglue to help it stay together again. It's surprising what you can do if faced with a bil for £180 from the dealer
