Anyone had this problem - Diesel siphoned from tank !

Hi -

Was just wondering am I the only one recently had this problem.

Parked my car in a car park at about 11.15am and had a meeting in nearby offices, the meeting lasted well over an hour and a half, got back to the Freelander and started her up. Had filled the tank the evening before and was full to the tune of £75.00 ! Noticed that the tank was half full and though OMG - has my tank been siphoned and yes it had. Big Cry

Just putting it out there; that there are a few W@*K'ers about obviously targeting Land Rover Freelanders for their own benefit and beware, fitting of a Anti Siphon device might stop or hinder them. Shocked

Other than that loving the little beast. Smile

K.

Does your round fuel door not lock?

Could also be a faulty fuel sender etc which is quite common Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes but its a pretty flimsy affair isnt it, wouldnt take much of a pull to open it even if it was locked, next time youve got a minute try and get into yours, you'll find it soon breaks off around the hinge/lock area with little effort.
In fact everyone should break theirs off just so you know how easy it is.

very common problem, in fact a lot of thieves ( sorry scroats ) cut the filler neck when they are plastic or punch a hole in the fuel tank so make sure when you fill it up its not squirting out somewhere. I used to replace endless amount of fuel tanks where they had been drilled or punched !

The best one was a motor home in Canada ! the guy had tried syphoning off the fuel tank but infact had hit a toilet waste and was found hours later seriously ill from having swallowed some chemical ! Rolling with laughter got his just deserts ! Rolling with laughter

If you don't see proof of a real siphoning action (something forced or pierced), don't worry, it's a glitch of the CJB. Sometimes it shows half tank when in reality is full.

Mine once in a while shows completely empty, stop remove fob and restart it's back to normal, cheaper than refilling but only works every so often, once every ten days I do have to refill.

2011 MY should be OK as wrong fuel prevention device closes filler neck if narrow spout inserted. The reset tool is in(empty!!!!) spare wheel well.
So if you can't fill fuel next time you know some a------e has poked a siphon tube into filler. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.
