The problem seems to be that unlike most strips of this type the core is actually aluminium instead of steel wire. The resulting grip is not very good and presumably an alloy as they corrode internally from the ends. Prog rock is cool!

I replaced all mine a few months back. Before putting them on I sealed all ends with black sealant to stop water getting in. Takes a couple of minutes and hopefully will pay off.

I bought the rears in two parts.

The Part numbers are;
LLR026342 £5.64 (Rear)
LLR001624 £3.83 (Rear)
LLR005165 £10.41 (Front)
They aren't handed, so to replace all 4 wheelarches you will need 2 of each item.

I ordered this, but the LLR026342 looks like a trim for the door.......It has the rubber sealing part that's on the inside of the doors.  FL2, TD4 HSE

The part numbers are correct, I did mine at the weekend. LR026342 must have been modified, as my old strips were the same length but din't have the seal portion. Fits fine so must be there for a reason!

Ok, but the LR026342 is not for the rear as stated. It's for the front. The other 2 are for the rear.
So Wombat did your front trim also have the seal portion? Did you just tuck it in there? FL2, TD4 HSE

I replaced the wheel arch trims on my 2007 GS last month. The part numbers that I was supplied with were
LLR005165, LLR001623 and LLR001624. 2 of each were needed and they matched the parts that were removed.
I ran some hot melt glue over the unsealed ends of each piece of trim to try to stop the corrosion that causes the trim to fall off. I also ran some ACF50 around the exposed seams before fitting the parts.

Sorry, I had got a couple of numbers mixed up.

The Part numbers are;
LLR026342 £5.64 (Front nearside with seal portion)
LLR001623 £3.83 (Front offside) aparently can be used on either O/S or N/S but has no extra seal.
LLR001624 £3.83 (Rear)
LLR005165 £10.41 (Rear)

According to the partsman, the extra seal is only on the N/S front (LLR026342). He did say you can use it on either side, though. As a thought as to why it's there, is the air filter intake behind the N/S wheelarch splash guard? That would make sense to stop too much dust etc getting sucked in. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

I've replaced the b y things twice. Both the front ones came adrift after driving though 3 inches of water and got trapped in the front coil spring.
Utter crap, i'm thinking of taking the things off altogether. I'm sure i can find something better.
I can't see the point of fitting rubbish to replace rubbish. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Maybe you could try clear silicone sealant (the one for bathrooms) to help keep them on?  Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

Thing is they corrode so i think they'll distort eventually.
I've put some sticky plastic stuff on my rear bumper to prevent doggie damage and it's showing no signs of coming off so i might use that.
Why the arch liners weren't designed to aslo protect the wing lip i'll never know. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I had a look at the trim that I took off. Only the ends were corroding which is why I sealed the ends on the new bits before fitting. Cutting through the old trim away from the end revealed uncorroded metal.
I wasn't offered any different trim for the N/S and O/S front and the trim which came off was the same length and profile as the new.
The air intake is the grill on the N/S (UK) wing that also contains the turn repeater and only sealed ducting runs inside the wing to the air filter in the engine bay.

Is the right side N/S for you guys? FL2, TD4 HSE
