The octagonal Jubilee Tower on Beacon Hill, overlooking the town of Darwen, was completed in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and also to celebrate the victory of the local people for the right to access the moor, locally known as Darwen Tower.

My proximity to the moor is the reason for the freely, we're only 900ft above sea level, but being the first hill from the coast we get quite harsh winters, always a couple of degrees lower than town.

The picture was taken from home, great sunsets.

Beacon Hill? Is that near Beacon Fell? I did search Google but didn't get much. I remember going to Beacon Fell when I was younger (and living in Blackpool) and I don't remember anywhere called Darwen or any monument like that. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

Darwen is just South of Blackburn on the edge of the Lancashire moors.
Beacon Fell is in the Trough of Bowland, about 15 miles north of here.
It is also 5 minutes from the dealers, this is the first port of call with my new car in two weeks, I will get some pics for you.
Being from Blackpool, you had a far more impressive landmark!!
From the picture above, if I was slightly higher, Blackpool tower can be seen on the coast, Blackpool is not the place it was, too many wild hen parties, filth and debauchery these days.

That is a much better sunset shot - the additional feature (FL2) just adds an element of "grounding"

Good photo Paul (taz) I can see that from my house too. Will look better when they rebuild the top bit.

This one taken from Arisaig in the Western Highlands the other day. Might be a bit grainy as taken on my phone, but I like it!
