Hey guy’s looking for some info/advice relating to my FL2 ( 2011 TD4 ). Well you see I have her now for about 4 weeks, and its great .. Drives really well etc , the only thing I’ve noticed is that the fuel economy is pretty bad, compared to the metrics land rover supply for this vehicle.

I'm in exactly the same situation with a 10 day old 2011 MY Freelander with 1800 miles.

Thanks for the reply Tigger, I suppose if I got her up to 40mpg I’d be happy enough, it just the disparity between the figures was making me think there was something wrong. I had reckoned there was going to be a difference but not that much ... So I guess this latest engine is pretty much the same as the last TD4 economy wise?

My 2011 SD 190 Auto now at 7k returned 39mpg on a 600 miles trip, 2 way, motorway, country lanes and driven at legal limits. Cruise used at 75 (actual 72) on motorways. Have had it at 42 on a quiet country road dodging along in the fifties. In the "fifties" ie 1950 about 25 mpg was good for any car!!!! All FL2's (3) Gone

My 2008 FL2 is averaging 31.2 just now - including a recent 1200 mile round trip between Brighton and St Andrews on motorways using cruise control at legal limit. If I could get above 35 mpg I would be delighted.

Not a complaint - merely an observation - given the thread is about unmet expectations. If I was worried about fuel consumption I would cycle and use public transport and save the planet through the sacrifice of selling my cars. However, I love the FL2 and luckily the diesel consumption is more a topic of interest than a financial burden. Mine: Freelander 2 HSE, 08. Santorini Black/Alpaca Leather, privacy glass, side steps. |

All manufacturers are forced to use the same criteria - so it's a sort of a level playing field- but as in many things in life it's a swindle. One of the biggest swindles is the Fiat 500 that promises over 50 and delivers bu ger all in reality (honest John Sunday Telegraph) Can Sunday papers be quoted any more?

Hi, Have now done over 15,000 in my MY11 TD4. Average seems to be 39-42. It drops ways down in town. Did once get it to 44 on a long run with light foot. I am not pushing it though but I suspect if I did it would drop way down. For its size i think the average is about as good as its going to get. Interesting that you mention brands of diesel. I do think the Tesco stuff doesn't go as far but its probably just my imagination! |
