You'll open a can or worms asking that question on here. I've a manual and quite happy with the mpg and yes I used to have an auto so know what I am on about. That said it down to the driver and everyone is different. |

I presume you are looking at 2nd hand FL2's as the SE is no longer available (its now the XS I believe)

Apart from what has been mentioned above, better Stereo and from MY10 I think that's when DAB became standard, oh and a Pollen Filter (wow) 18" wheels as standard. |

If you plan on towing then buy auto for an easier life. You said you prefer manual so if towing is not an issue or you do very little towing then go for the manual. Its a great box with a nice smooth change and should be cheaper to buy (£1500 difference when new) as well as being cheaper on fuel and tax bills. The stop/start system didn't become standard until 59 plate I think, not 100% sure on that though. That feature drops the tax another group. The 6 month price on mine with stop/start is £115. The auto was about £145 I think. Horses for courses and all that. You could contact our site sponsors LPR for help and advice. SE came with half leather (and no arm rests) as standard but a lot around late MY2007 early MY2008 were specced with full lether giving you practically the same spec as a HSE excet for memory seats, 18" wheels and the pro logic stereo..

For 2011 MY (similar to 2010MY) the HSE came with the following over and above the XS;

The XS as it is now is quite a lot different in spec to the SE... for example out of that list my SE has got;

And my MY11 XS has: Leather Steering wheel auto-dimming mirror electric seats panoramic roof (albeit paid extra for it) light in vanity mirrors mats all round heated mirrors, folding door puddle lamps arm rests and rear centre arm rest (again an extra) bi-zenon headlamps so current XS is pretty much the same spec as old SE apart from panoramic roof and arm rests. Also road tax on MY11 TD4 manual is £155 for 12 months and averaging about 38 - 40 mpg. |

Nobody has mentioned the obvious --- but if you are going to offroad buy an auto, it's not that they are better, just that the manual clutch can VERY easily be killed when worked hard.
