Is clutch connection hydraulic or mechanical?

I have new TD4e and can't find any evidence of the clutch being hydraulic,no evidence of a master cylinder despite stories of slave cylinder failure which I have read on General forum,I would be fairly confident that it is cable operated, otherwise pommies have hidden the master cylinder very well! I would be interested in any thoughts.Car arrived with oil and water leak, fixed water leak myself and oil leak has been reduced but not entirely under warranty.

Hi bob, from what I have read on this forum it seems there is no hydraulic master cylinder, but mechanical linkage from the pedal to the hydraulic slave cylinder in the bell housing. I have also read that someone had a clutch failure due to an 'O' ring failure near the bulkhead so why the hydraulic system is external to the bell housing, I do not know Confused

It's hydraulic. The master cylinder is "hidden" near and below the brake booster. See picture.

Alex, I went through all your documents but could not find anything regarding the clutch, brilliant Thumbs Up

That now explains that it is a shared reservoir between the clutch and brake, I believe the owners manual only mention the brake reservoir when checking, but I will look again.

EDIT: Just checked in manual and everything in bold relates to brake fluid with one small mention of brake/clutch fluid
