I have new TD4e and can't find any evidence of the clutch being hydraulic,no evidence of a master cylinder despite stories of slave cylinder failure which I have read on General forum,I would be fairly confident that it is cable operated,otherwise pommies have hidden the master cylinder very well! I would be interested in any thoughts.Car arrived with oil and water leak,fixed water leak myself and oil leak has been reduced but not entirely under warranty.

Hi bob, from what I have read on this forum it seems there is no hydraulic master cylinder, but mechanical linkage from the pedal to the hydraulic slave cylinder in the bell housing. I have also read that someone had a clutch failure due to an 'O' ring failure near the bulkhead so why the hydraulic system is external to the bell housing, I do not know

It's hydraulic. The master cylinder is "hidden" near and below the brake booster. See picture.

That now explains that it is a shared reservoir between the clutch and brake, I believe the owners manual only mention the brake reservoir when checking, but I will look again.

EDIT: Just checked in manual and everything in bold relates to brake fluid with one small mention of brake/clutch fluid
