I think all the manufacturers have concepts on the go in various guises.
At the end of the day it will be third party companies who develop the technology to a useable level, not the car manufacturers, personally, I think all this nonsense is pandering to the greens and enviromentalists, a whole generation is being brainwashed into saving the planet, many for the wrong reasons.
The oil producing countries are far too powerful a force to let car manufacturers simply design a car that doesnt need oil products to propel it, fancy technologies appeared years ago and were squashed when deemed to be an alternative to oil products.
Electric powered cars have huge torque figures, it is a dream scenario for manufacturers to quoate fast 0-60 times, high top speeds etc, very few quote the range of the vehicle, VW quote 157mpg, astonishing but this is very misleading, the fuel is being used to provide charge, not propulsion, how far will it actually go? I reckon a couple of 0-60 sprints from the lights with all the electrics going and it may get you a mile down the road
I dont think JLR have much to fear, when the technology is ready and viable they will put it into their cars.
In the meantime, I am going to boil the kettle, get a coffee, sit back and wait for these charged particles to hit Earth, maybe if we collect them in a net, we can put them in our Freelander electrons
