Looking at the new Peugeot 3008 hybrid 4...

You've got to wonder why LR weren't here first given the projects they have/had underway.

It would really suit company cars drivers, if like this 3008, you get CO2 levels of just under or just over 100.

As far as I can see it still doesn't do plug-in though. With the new Toyota plug-in hybrid you'll be able to charge up overnight, motor down to Sainsbury's on electric only, charge up for free in Sainsbury's carpark, motor home again on electric and recharge overnight. Petrol only used for longer journeys. Of course plug-in is not much use to many of the people whom it would benefit most, because living in towns we don't have an off-road parking space to do the charging.
The diesel hybrid might help to solve pdf problems - if you only use your diesel engine on longer journeys the pdf might get up to temperature more regularly.

& remembering the later thread which included comments on better mpg needed for FL3

Looks like VW will get there much sooner than LR!

Although I don't like the looks of that VW the technological advance and tax handling of such a car would be really really bad news for LR unless they get in quick with theirs.

I think all the manufacturers have concepts on the go in various guises.
At the end of the day it will be third party companies who develop the technology to a useable level, not the car manufacturers, personally, I think all this nonsense is pandering to the greens and enviromentalists, a whole generation is being brainwashed into saving the planet, many for the wrong reasons.

The oil producing countries are far too powerful a force to let car manufacturers simply design a car that doesnt need oil products to propel it, fancy technologies appeared years ago and were squashed when deemed to be an alternative to oil products.

Electric powered cars have huge torque figures, it is a dream scenario for manufacturers to quoate fast 0-60 times, high top speeds etc, very few quote the range of the vehicle, VW quote 157mpg, astonishing but this is very misleading, the fuel is being used to provide charge, not propulsion, how far will it actually go? I reckon a couple of 0-60 sprints from the lights with all the electrics going and it may get you a mile down the road Rolling Eyes

I dont think JLR have much to fear, when the technology is ready and viable they will put it into their cars.

In the meantime, I am going to boil the kettle, get a coffee, sit back and wait for these charged particles to hit Earth, maybe if we collect them in a net, we can put them in our Freelander electrons Laughing
