Sobering Thought

For all those out there who like the new baby range rover. With all the problems with clutch, DMF our Freelander 2 has I was wondering if now these problems have been carried over to the new rangie. Part numbers are the same for clutch plate,DMF,slave cylinder.
Guess there will be a lot of failures in the months to come Shocked

What is even more worrying is the fact that many members have stated on here that LR would not do an SD4 manual FL2 because (partly at least) the clutch would not cope very well with the extra power. So despite that argument, LR go and give customers the manual option on the Evoque SD4 Shocked

I assume the Evoque is lighter than the FL2 if that has any bearing on it?

Such a shame about the reliability of the manual box. If LR and others got their act together then life would be so much better. Because reliability aside, the otherwise superior manual box Mr. Green (awaits onslaught) would be great in an Evoque SD4. Especially the petrol I suspect.

I don't think there is a problem with the manual box (I drive an auto) it's the preception that there is a problem with the clutch DMF combination. there are loads of FL2s out there with no problem at all and the DMF problem is something that affects most modern diesel cars.

Going by the figures from Polls on here and the general acceptance that only those with problems will post about them etc etc.
I have looked at a few statistics and extrapolated them out, using the failed numbers and total members, not scientific but the number may surprise you.

There are over 250,000 Freelanders in circulation, lets say the auto/manual split is 50/50 for arguments sake, giving us 125,000 manual equipped cars.
The figures on this forum for failures when added into the mix produce a total of 128 gearbox failures for 125,000 cars, thast would give a failure rate in percentage terms of 0.1% well within anybodies spec, even with a large margin for error, it is still a small number of failures and is possibly the reason not a lot gets done about it.

Do Land Rover really believe they have a problem??
