Bought mine a couple of weeks ago - since them drove from Warwickshire to French Alps and back again and a trip to Essex and back again. Few days of commuting 80 miles a day either side. At just over 2k miles now. Long term average 34.8mpg. Pretty good really - was at around 80/85 on the French motorways for a lot of the journey. I suspect I could get nearer 37/38 with a lighter foot.

Thanks for all the replies.
I've been test driving a HSE Sd4 in Silver today. It's coming up for sale next week as ex demo. I must admit that extra power is nice. The auto seemed very smooth, although the power steering was very light and slightly vague because of that. Otherwise it was just as I remembered having had a SE model a few years ago. So it looks like the Beemer is going to be part ex'd next week and I'll be coming back into the fold.

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

In my experience, it does pretty much the published figures. On my journey to work into Leeds, which is 26 miles, a mix of rural 'A' and 'B' roads with some very steep hills, 12 miles stop start motorway then a couple of city centre miles. I often get over 40mpg on the trip computer.

Just done a 550 mile return trip (200 quiet fast motorway, 200 busy, less fast) miles on one tank of fuel, trip computer says 38mpg.

Manual calculations on brimming the tank have averaged 36, but remember this is a brand new vehicle, still under 2000 miles Trevor

I'd certainly settle for that but only getting about 32mpg at present - still under 500 miles and not getting any longer runs.

My CRV quoted 44mpg and consistently gave 40/42 so 36/38 would be acceptable from my SD4. Wonder what the towing 1500 kg figure at 65/70mph will be like? CRV used to give about 24mpg. Freelander 2 SD4 HSE - Ipanema Sand - MD co-pilot - Springer Spaniel in boot - Swift Challenger on the back!
