I'll have a look but been a numpty when taking engines apart im not sure on the taking apart side of things I might get it serviced, that and a pipe that snapped off leaving a threaded part in the engine where it looks to have been screwed in Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Found a website that does parts for the briggs stratton engine, found the engine model number and worked out what parts were what

I think i have ordered what is needed to fix it

a service kit inc filter/spark plugs etc
a diaphram
the breather tube that looks to have snapped

£30 inc P&P, thought better to spend that than £400+ on a new mower Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If you get one with a B&S engine, make sure if you tip it up that the spark plug end is uppermost, if you don't, it Censored them up and they will only pulse rev after that, can only assume some oil gets passed a seal.

Aaaahhhh... I have that problem and have spent the last few days investigating everything, changing plugs, cleaning filter and carb, but the problem still remains. Is it fixable - cheaply??? Really bugging me. Evil or Very Mad

You can buy a new carb for about£12 that sorts it out. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.

Prior to my fix I tilted it up on its side, carb on high side and still got oil in my air filter and all over the mower deck

My spark plugs on the front, do I tilt the front up to change blade or clean underneath ? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

that's exactly what I do with my Mountfield Emblem, for the last 20 years !!

I've recently replaced it ( not because it's broken, just for a bigger cut/machine ) and bought a 21" cut ALKO rotary.

it's a beautiful big beast, 6.7hp 190cc Briggs and Stratton powerdrive and really well built.

in fact after using it two or three times we were in B&Q yesterday and the Mountfield range is not in the same league as the ALKO. ( ALKO also make the chassis, etc for motorhomes/caravans, etc

And honestly pinks, just get a new carb for your mower. They are only abou £12 makes them run really sweet. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well.
