Not got sizes of the new lawn, hopefully when the sale completes i can pace it out and find out, just planning till then Very Happy

not going to bother with mulching, sounds like i need to cut the lawn too often, and it will be played on my the kids and is relatively level so maybe i won't bother with a powered one

my dads is a hayter, and has electric start which would be a bonus Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I am not recommending this site as just found it but has a good selection to look at, no idea whether prices are any good, but leccy start mowers tend to be dear £4-500+ if your going to push it (not self powered) surely pulling a cord is OK. It saves a load of wonga Laughing

Buy the best John Deere you can afford,i have two campsites and all my gear is John Deere or Sthil,i work my mowers daily at this time of year, and they never fail to start or do the work you ask of them.
My first year at Eskdale my John Deere was cutting up ganite stone for fun Big Cry.
You dont need to buy new, second hand out of a dealer, and you get that service and piece of mind that a dealer should give you LOL!.
Good luck Eskdale

Bought one of these a couple of years back, not the cheapest but by far the best i've had, never liked having to mow the lawn but it really does a good job and is a pleasure to use. I thought a mower was just a mower but but it really backs up the statement "You get what you pay for"

this looks a really good machine, never seen it in B@Q, etc

what made you go for this model ?

Iain

Iain, simply fed up of buying tat, if you buy from B&Q you get no back up should things go wrong, the local garden machinery companies are not very helpful because you didn't buy from them and only go to them because the likes of B&Q don't offer any back up.
The models that B&Q sell for about £150 are ok for a few months but won't lst for years and do not do anything like such a good job as the Deere, the previous mower I had was a Mountfield with a Briggs And Stratton but if the grass was longer thsn 1/2 an inch or slightly damp it would block up where as the Deere has guides lining the exit of the cut grass leaving nothing for the grass to foul on hence getting the job done quicker, also having a roller across the back you can cut along the borders without scapling the edges like you will with a one with four wheels. All together better bit of equipment. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

As mentioned the good thing about john deere is their parts backup service, they stock everything , if not at the dealer then in the parts stores in UK or Germany, shipments arrive daily so normally you get the part you need within 2 days.

They even have a web site where you can search on-line parts lists for your machine and order directly through the internet. A man in a JD van brings them to the farm, free delivery . (not sure if single lawn-mower owners will recieve that type of service Laughing )

Although like most brands I would avoid their cheapest ranges as they are often just average machines with a famous name badge to bump up the price. At work

If you get one with a B&S engine, make sure if you tip it up that the spark plug end is uppermost, if you don't, it Censored them up and they will only pulse rev after that, can only assume some oil gets passed a seal. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

Lots to go on cheers Thumbs Up

My brother text me a pic of a Ryobi reduced to £160 from £240 at B&Q but it just seems too cheap and my Ryobi 180 bit drill set didn't last very long either, just like the drill that they came free with Laughing

Aaaahhhh... I have that problem and have spent the last few days investigating everything, changing plugs, cleaning filter and carb, but the problem still remains. Is it fixable - cheaply??? Really bugging me. Evil or Very Mad Chris

Apparently the reason the engine surges like this, is because the diaphragm gets distorted and leaks around the vacuum port that operates the fuel pump portion of this type of carburetor set up. The fuel leaks into the port by passing the metering circuit of the carburetor. This causes the engine to run "rich" the richer fuel mix causes the engine to slow down, spit and sputter, this also causes excess carbon build up from unburned fuel and turns your spark plug black and makes the sooty discharge that you can see on your exhaust.
The offending part is the diaphragm and gasket, they may look like one when you take it apart, but they are two parts and available as a kit. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

Spot on! My plug gets black and carbonated, and the exhaust is sooty also. Thanks for the answer! Chris
