I am not recommending this site as just found it but has a good selection to look at, no idea whether prices are any good, but leccy start mowers tend to be dear £4-500+ if your going to push it (not self powered) surely pulling a cord is OK. It saves a load of wonga

Iain, simply fed up of buying tat, if you buy from B&Q you get no back up should things go wrong, the local garden machinery companies are not very helpful because you didn't buy from them and only go to them because the likes of B&Q don't offer any back up. The models that B&Q sell for about £150 are ok for a few months but won't lst for years and do not do anything like such a good job as the Deere, the previous mower I had was a Mountfield with a Briggs And Stratton but if the grass was longer thsn 1/2 an inch or slightly damp it would block up where as the Deere has guides lining the exit of the cut grass leaving nothing for the grass to foul on hence getting the job done quicker, also having a roller across the back you can cut along the borders without scapling the edges like you will with a one with four wheels. All together better bit of equipment. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |

As mentioned the good thing about john deere is their parts backup service, they stock everything , if not at the dealer then in the parts stores in UK or Germany, shipments arrive daily so normally you get the part you need within 2 days.

If you get one with a B&S engine, make sure if you tip it up that the spark plug end is uppermost, if you don't, it them up and they will only pulse rev after that, can only assume some oil gets passed a seal. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

Aaaahhhh... I have that problem and have spent the last few days investigating everything, changing plugs, cleaning filter and carb, but the problem still remains. Is it fixable - cheaply??? Really bugging me. Chris |

Apparently the reason the engine surges like this, is because the diaphragm gets distorted and leaks around the vacuum port that operates the fuel pump portion of this type of carburetor set up. The fuel leaks into the port by passing the metering circuit of the carburetor. This causes the engine to run "rich" the richer fuel mix causes the engine to slow down, spit and sputter, this also causes excess carbon build up from unburned fuel and turns your spark plug black and makes the sooty discharge that you can see on your exhaust. The offending part is the diaphragm and gasket, they may look like one when you take it apart, but they are two parts and available as a kit. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey 71 Triumph Stag 3L 68 NGTCV8 3.5L |

Spot on! My plug gets black and carbonated, and the exhaust is sooty also. Thanks for the answer! Chris |
