Hi guys,

I am in the process of sorting out my 2007 GS with a few sensible mods to improve performance / economy / safety, and I was thinking about installing some LED DRLs like many of the current models. Have any owners been successful with the various aftermarket offerings? (like Philips, Ring etc) From what I have seen, many of them seem to be too weak to be of any use or just look plain daft. Any info & pics would be appreciated.

DRL's will not affect Performance, Economy and it's debatable that they offer any safety.

Having said that, they can offer a certain styling enhancement, Philips do ome but they are expensive and powerful, too many muppets are fitting them to look cool and failing miserably.

1) Put your right foot down = Performance

2) Take your right foot off. = Economy

3) Turn your side lights on = Safety

Top tips, and it won't cost you apart putting your foot down.

if you ask your local dealer or an indi specilist get them to put the vehicles lights into scandanavian mode your drls will be on during the day

FYI:
Scandinavian mode = Dipped main beam headlight and side lights on all the time. Full beam only works during darkness (night and tunnel use) but the flash functions all the time.

However it is possible to turn off the main beam using the light switch turned to side lights only (in Scandinavia not allowed to drive with unless the fogs are turned on in fog). 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I had considered the Scandinavian option but all modern DRLs are just front mounted and it would just look as if I had forgotten to turn my lights off .

My biggest problem is where to mount them. There are some LED foglight replacements but that defeats the object of having fogs in the first place - how about in the bottom-most slots in the grille?

To comply with the new regulations, you DRL's will need to be wired into the cars existing lighting circuit. They will also need to be dimmed down automatically when either the side lights or headlights are switched on. If used as sidelights then they will need to be dimmed. Also will need to dim automatically when the indicators are used.

Having said that, just do when every other idiot does and ignore the law  ______________________

I think the bottom slots are too far from the side of the vehicle, there ia a max distance from the side.
Above the fog light in that housing for me would be OK, but I guess you have round fogs.

I saw a set of the Phillips 8 led lights on a Toyota 4x4 today in Bradford ( additional LEDS of every colour of the raindow are " de-riguer" in certain parts of that fair City along with 6" tail pipes and jet black glass on every window ) they were certainly very, very, visable, but on closer inspection were not fitted flush to the bodywork they sort of stood on it , 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

But you forgot to mention the Ooom Dush, Ooom Dush, Ooom Dush, Ooom Dush from the sub woofer in the boot

I found this on the Disco 3 forum. I think this looks really good if you want to fit DRLs and make it look 'factory'. I believe the author bought them from e-bay. Combined with the relay you found RazMan, that would be my choice.
