They really are unreliable if wet - ridiculous for an off roader. My Old CRV ones were faultless.

It seems that if some people are unlucky and have a few problems they whinge a lot, but most of us that DON'T have problems keep quiet - SO this is a little appraisal for us that do not have any problems with our Freelys  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

Talking to an old school friend who works at Halewood recently - apparently its a design issue with the front face of the sensor that traps moisture, thus causing an illusion of an obstacle in front of the sensor. Toyota are having the same problem with one of their models which use the same sensor heads. Land Rover are in no hurry to offer a fix apparentley as the warrenty claim costs could be huge - mostly labour costs (bumpers off etc).

That does not explain why not every Freely has the same problem Our FL2 has seen its fare share of heavy rain, and deep snow, admittedly the sensors have become a bit confused (rarely) by LOTS of loose dry snow, but when on normal driving surface several minutes later all is normal again. I have never considered that a real problem and not as bad as some other unfortunate forum members have described.

However, considering what your friend has described, maybe LR have had alternative suppliers of the sensors (or the whole system), some of which are of poorer quality that others  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

mine deveolped this problem after i used my karcher to clean it, took it to the dealers but it had dried out and started working then, not sure if heavey rain will have same effetct but will post if does.... freelander 2 SE black and beige - now sold

My experience is that this only occurs in or after heavy rain. So probably the sencors are not too happy about water....  2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

3 Years next month and never had a failure.

yesterday for the first time it kept a continuous beep with nothing nearby. Heavy rain all day. Will need to keep an eye on it. Havnet't cleaned them yet, so might just be that... i hope.

If I had a penny for everytime I have given them a clean in the hope of stopping the beep I would have £3.67

Had a problem in heavy rain on the front ones,then worked again.

A couple of Mths ago no rain, front sensors played up again,was patient and they came good after a few days.

Driving in heavy rain a few times,no problem.

Had car washed no problem and was rainy again with no problem.

Have used a protector spray in the past,not sure if that prevents the trouble.

If happens again,will not panic,just wait and see,put up with the inconvenience.

Good idea to extend the warranty if keeping the vehicle for a few yrs.

Yes, but when the sun comes back, and the car is dried up, everything is OK again.

I know that this year has been fairly dry generally speaking and the incidence of faulty sensors may have been less. As far as I'm concerned (2007 FL2 HSE TD4), the things are still as erratic as ever despite having supposedly having sealant applied. As the car was out of warranty in May this year, I asked that a note of the faulty sensors be made on record in case of a cure coming along - whether that will have any effect I don't know.

What I am wondering is whether later models have been any better as most of the complaints seem to feature early vehicles in 2006,7 and 8. Have any of you guys with 09, 59, and 10 reg cars had the problem or can we suspect there has been a change of sensor supplier?

Has anyone had a fix from the dealer with regards to this problem? I've got mine booked in to check it out, but they did admit that it seems to be a design fault and not much they could do as LR has no fix. Phil

Mine started howling again... Left the car running and took a walk around the car smashing my furyfist into each sensor while listening to the sound. When I punched the left front sensor the sound disappeared.
Have an appointment the 10. sept to have it changed out.
Not getting my hopes up, but we'll see. FL2, TD4 HSE
