Rear discs - vented, or solid?

I have just bought a pair of Delphi rear discs for my 2015MY FL2 (electric handbrake) from GSF.

The spec sheets say they should be but but having just checked, my rear discs appear to he vented 🤷‍♂️

Which should they be?…

There are two types of venting, drilled and/or slotted. AFAIK, they all should be slotted.

Thanks, but “vented”, as in plain faced, but air gaps between the two solid faces.

Having just had the painful joy of finding the right parts for my brakes, I found a few videos online of people replacing their non-vented discs for vented ones and generally needed new callipers that could cope with the extra thickness of the discs.

Are the ones currently on your car vented or solid? If vented, maybe someone has already upgraded? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.

Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Ukraine 2013 Freelander 2 2.0T SE Auto Fuji White

I have the petrol engine instead of the fish & chip oil burner. Ventilated front 316mm & solid rear a bit smaller.

If you are driving the car that hard I would suggest instead of rear ventilated discs, replace car with a less refined sports car.

80% of braking is done on the front. You do not need ventilated discs on a Freelander on the rear... even towing 2 tonnes of caravan & 350kg on the tow ball (Australian specification), 150kg UK specs. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

The back end has developed some very odd, brake related, squeaking noises - so it’s in at my specialist today. Something to talk to them about 👍

I’ve only owned this example for 2 months, so this is a previous owner mod.

I’ve owned three FL2’s before and I’ve never felt the need for a brake upgrade on one, so I’m happy to return it to standard 👍

The rears should be solid for your MY never seen vented ones on the rear. part no LR039935 2013 FL2 XS.

My SD4 (2014) has solid disks on the rear and vented ones on the front.

I did the I6 front brake upgrade - larger vented front disks and new caliper carrier, but same caliper and pads.

I dont see why the I6 has different front brakes - the car weighs much the same as the Td4/SD4 and speeds achieved is not going to much different really.
Marketing I guess. Jules

The i6 has larger vented rear discs (called rotors these days), all the other models had solid rear rotors. If someone has fitted the i6 brakes, then continue to use them, and just replace the parts like for like as they wear. Changing back will require the correct solid rotors, calipers, mounts and pads, so more costly than simply replacing parts like for like. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

You all say the i6 ones will fit - BUT - we're talking a Metropolis, 2014 car here - electronic handbrake - so those parts wouldn't fit even if you tried.

The i6 was sold in the ROW right upto the discontinuation of the Freelander 2. It was only the UK where they stopped selling the i6, but even then it could ordered specially in some circumstances. I've seen a couple of late i6 models for sale recently, both UK vehicles as far as I could tell.

As the i6 was available up to discontinuation, the parts needed to convert a later EPB model will also be available. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Thanks for the input everyone!
My LR specialist was surprised; he’d never seen vented disks fitted to the rear of an FL2 before. All the more surprising, as it’s a one owner car that’s had virtually everything done at the same supplying main dealer. Even the brake pads were “Land Rover” branded 🤷‍♂️
Anyway, the noises were caused by the fat discs rubbing against the backing plate - odd it took 2,000 miles from when I’d bought the car for it to develop.
One new pair of standard (solid) Delphi discs and pads and all is now well 👍😁
